This is an addendum to my earlier review on this product, which is now "resting in peace" (more precisely, pieces).

I burned it out the other night while making a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (the dough for these is heavier than the tollhouse recipe I tested in my first review). A puff of white smoke was my only warning -- in fact, it wasn't really a warning, but the signal that my mixer would mix no more.

I opened the appliance to see if a fusible link had protected the motor. Alas, there was nothing like that, just light-gauge wires and springs that popped out. The motor died, and the motor is the heart of the mixer.

Still, I want to let my 4-star rating stand, with the warning that this mixer is really meant for lighter-duty use. It still represents a good value. Just be aware that if you're doing things like mixing heavy doughs, you'd really be better off with a small stand mixer.

Stay away from this product. It should be recalled. I was using this mixer for only the second time. I made a simple cake and while pouring it into the cake pan, I noticed dark little bits that turned out to be little metal colored flakes. I inspected the beater and saw that it was shedding chrome plating. You get what you pay for but I would think it would be cheaper to NOT plate the beaters and certainly cheaper not to face a recall.

I cook for a family of 5.

I make a lot of mashed potatoes that need whipping.

I have gone through my share of hand mixers.

So far I don't have any complaints about this hamilton beach model. It is powerful enough to whip up the potatoes. It comes with a case that fits right onto the bottom of the mixer that holds the cord and the beaters. This is wonderful since I no longer have to search through the drawers looking for the beaters.

Over all a wonderful mixer for the money if your just looking for a normal household hand mixer.

What a great hand mixer. It is inexpensive so I was worried, but I shouldn't have been. It comes with 3 different sets of beaters that store in a container that the mixer sits on. But that is not the best part. This mixer has SO much more umph than my old hand mixer ever had! I have used it on many different recipes and it has NEVER bogged down! Plus I went to the Hamilton Beach site and it has a 2 year warrenty to fix or replace. If you want a hand mixer that has all the gusto without having to drag out your full size mixer, this is the one for you!

This one does it all. I bought it as a quick replacement when mine crashed and found it far superior to the expensive model it replaced. Has terrific power for its size and its blending capabilities are more than comparable to the bigger Kitchenaids. Highly recommend. Also makes a nice wedding or shower gift, or an inexpensive housewarming gift for a young cook starting out in that first apartment

I bought this mixer in July after reading the many positive reviews and the good price. I haven't used it that much as I'm not an avid baker, so I was surprised to little metal flakes from the beaters in the cookie dough that was being mixed. I haven't had any problems with the mixer itself, but what good is the mixer if the beaters are bad? Needless to say, I won't be using it again.

Actually, I purchased Model #62695R in a store. That model is the same as this one, with the added convenience of a storage unit for the mixer cord and attachments. This new mixer replaces an older reliable hand mixer with traditional beaters that finally burned out.

I chose this make-model for the following reasons:
the increased power (225-watts) is comparable to some of the more expensive hand mixers without the additional price; the 2 sets of beaters and a whisk which provides me with greater versatility than I had before with the old mixer; and I don't use the hand mixer enough to justify the higher price of some of the others.

The slowest speed on this mixer is probably comparable to one of the medium settings on my old mixer. I am looking forward to trying out the whisk to mix cream, something I couldn't do before.

For my needs, this hand mixer should be perfect. (Several suggestions based on some of the reviews: When mixing for example the liquid ingredients with the dry for a cake, mix them together slightly with a spoon to prevent the dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl before starting the hand mixer -- even on low powered mixers. For cookie doughs, I may use a hand mixer for mixing the liquid ingredients together, but do the heavy mixing by hand. If you have a food processor, then heavier doughs may be mixed in it.)

Addition: I have had the opportunity to use this mixer for heavier doughs and it has held up beautifully.

on this product are justified. I use this for

many of my baking needs and it works wonderfully.

The table rest is very useful for me.

This mixer was given to me and my wife as a present. And I must say I was worried when I saw the name on the box (we had a horrible experiance with a blender of the same brand). The first time we used it we had no problems and I thought that maybe the blender thing was a fluke and I would give "Hamilton Beach" another chance. It was when we used the mixer for the second time when we were mixing some batter we started to see little specks in the mixture. At closer inspection I noticed they were metal flakes!?! I looked at the beaters on the mixer and saw that the plating on the beaters was flaking off!!! If they were stainless steel, and not CHROME PLATED i wouldn't be writing this. I personally will never use or buy anything made by Hamilton Beach ever again and if u are smart you never will either. PURE GARBAGE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I have used this mixer several times now, including some heavy duty dough mixing. I have been very pleasantly surprised with its power considering its size. The slow start is a tremendous feature to keep the mixes from shooting out of the mixing bowl. Its variable and higher than average high speed are really handy to use and control. If only they supplied a dough hook with it, it would then be the perfect hand mixer. But the power is very good in the thick cookie doughs. A former model #62005 included a storage container which would be appreciated by most users of this model. For the price, compared to other more impressionable brand names, this is a very good deal.
