My fridge's ice maker turns out crescent shaped ice cubes and they don't work well with this machine. The ice went round and round in the shaving chamber but rarely engaged the shaving blade. There just isn't enough downward pressure to force the ice onto the blade.

Update: I went out and bought some ice cube trays hoping that the size or shape of the ice cube was a factor. No luck, this thing still doesn't work so I'll be returning it.

I normally use the Back to Basics ice shavers, the one where you have to press the ice cylinders down by yourself while pressing the button on top to get the shaved ice. And even THAT was easier than this machine was. My old one's motor was wearing out so we bought this one thinking it'd work better and/or last longer. I couldnt believe how horribly it performed and after nearly 5 minutes we didnt even end up with enough "snow" to make a decent snow cone for my four year old. I would much rather have to hold a button down for less than a minute and get a full snow cone than wait 20 minutes for a mostly melted tub of ice chips.

This product really lives up to its name and reputation. I originally bought one for my dad's birthday. He is 68 years old and uses this appliance several times a day.I figured that if he could use it, so could I. The Hamilton Beach is very easy to use, and requires minimal counter space. It also has two adjustment settings so that you can choose which type of ice you'd like to have. I am now able to make slush drinks for my entire family for just pennies on the dollar. No matter what type of drink you're craving, if it requires finely crushed ice, Hamilton Beach has it covered. With the American economy in the slump that it's in, I enjoy having an appliance that assists me in saving both time and money.
