Love this food processor!,

I purchased this FP 4 1/2 years ago and it is still running strong. I have grated, diced, and mixed well over 1500 pounds of food and have yet to experience any problems.Christmas, 2 years ago, I was making a dough that was so thick, the motor was barely going, even on the high setting. I was horrified to see smoke pouring out of the back of the stand, so I shut it off and figured that I had killed it for certain. Not so! After cooling down for half hour or so, it was up and running again as though nothing had happened. I use this when I puree my pumpkin each fall. Over the course of 3 or 4 days, I generally do around 200-300 pounds of pumpkin and this FP has sailed through with out any problems. This includes running times into the hours. (4 or 5 hours at a time without any longer than a 30 second break between batches) I have dropped it... it fell into a sink of water...it was in a box that fell down a flight of stairs... I have basically done anything and everything one would think would cause it to be destroyed and yet it just won't quit! I would recommend this FP to anyone looking for a workhorse for a good price. I would be lost without mine and consider it the most important small appliance in my kitchen.

Shreds carrots and zucchini very nicely for soups and salads and purees good, too. However, the food chute isn't very big and I have to cut up everything. Other than that, I have no complaints. I just wish I had paid more attention to the size of the food chute before making my final decision on which processor to buy.

I would have preferred to give this 0 stars, but that was not an option.I got this item based on a good review that I had seen here. The plastic housing around the S-blade cracked after 2 uses. I got ahold of Hamiliton Beach and was told to send back the blade for a new one. I did. Many months went by. I called and, "they aren't in stock, but we'll send it as soon as it is!" I waited some more. I finally contacted the company again and made a big enough fuss that they agreed to send me another unit. I have had this one for all of 3 months, (I only use it about once a week) and the S-blade is completely cracked once more! What is the point of getting a replacement that's just as bad? This tells me that the original one breaking was due to the horrible quality of the product and not a random defect. I also agree with a previous review that there really is only one speed. And I also discovered that if I tried to do anything that was even a little on the liquid side, the thing leaks out of the top! This is not a good product, and I do not plan to ever buy anything from Hamilton Beach again.

Should have listened....,

I did quite a bit of research before I purchased this food processor. I even read all of the negative/mediocre reviews and decided to try it for myself anyway (hey it was only $25.) My original intent was to make Pesto (my garden is full of basil). For pesto this machine works fine except that the S-blade is difficult to clean. Somehow food works up into the inside of the blade. The second time I used this food processor the feed tube broke! I was doing parmesean cheese (per the instruction guide) and the bottom of the tube snapped off inside the food processor. It did slice vegetables nicely and the pesto came out great...so I guess if you are going to use this processor for light work it is great but eventually I will move up to a nicer more durable model.

Don't waste your money with this one. Yes, it is cheap.... but it is cheap in every sense of the word. The very first time I used it, a part of the chute broke off. I could still use it though, although food crumbs sometimes got everywhere. Today, a mere 6 months after purchasing, the small plastic part of the shredding attachment broke off completely. This made my processor completely unable to shred or slice anything. The chopper still works, but it's such a hassle to use I think I will just trash it and get a different model, from a different brand.

Dishwasher safe?,

This is my first food processor. I loved it (emphasis on the past tense). I could grate cheese like there was no tomorrow...but it is definitely NOT dishwasher safe. I put it on the top rack every time and it still melted. AND you can't buy replacement parts, or at least not anywhere that I've found. I'm going to try melting it back in to shape with a torch. If that doesn't work, I'm drilling holes in the bottom and turning it into a terrarium.

This is the first food processor I ever bought. I wasn't sure I 'needed' a Food Processor, but now I can't live without it!It only lasted about 2 years (maybe less) until the post that turns the blades actually broke in 2! I think I need a heavier duty machine, but for $30, this is a great one to start.

The product does the job. It can chop, mince, puree, you name it. I found it very useful and I am extremely happy with the purchase. The product is powerful 350W, has large capacity. The product can even ground meat. I no longer buy ground meat in a package off a shelf from grocery stores. You can control fat and lean. You can buy a block of cheese and use this product to shred them. Carrot cake? This is what you need. The best of all, you can save money that way even more with this product. Pulse action allows you to make pie dough as well. I can not stress enough how easy the clean up is. All you need to do is to quickly rinse them and place them in your dishwasher. Anything else, you simply wipe them off with a damp cloth.

A Plastic toy would last longer than this appliance,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70550RL PrepStar Food Processor with Bonus Chill Lid (Kitchen)
I bought this food processor and used it to knead dough. The second day the blade assembly wouldn't turn. Upon inspection I found that the plastic assembly had cracked and wasn't gripping the plastic motor shaft. The manufacturers warranty doesn't cover blades or other plastic parts. It pretty much is a limited warranty on the motor. I bought another one of the same models and this one lasted a little longer but less than 2 weeks. The blade assembly cracked on this one too. The blade has a curved form where it grips the motor shaft which has a similar contoured base. The shaft does not provide any support at the top like most other food processors. The entire stress is concentrated on the lower part of the blade assembly. This causes the blade assembly to crack at the base and then it starts slipping on the motor shaft. I found the same issue with all prepstar models like Prepstar 70560R, 70650, 70660 etc. Models like the 70590 and 70595 seem to have a motor shaft that grip the blade assembly properly. Before you ignore me and buy a prepstar, please go to a store and check the plastic motor shaft and the blade assembly and compare it with that of other food processors.I have tried two of the same model and had the same problem. This cannot be a coincidence. I am looking for a durable food processor and this is not it. I could buy the 70590 or the 70595 model but I will stay away from the prepstar line.

It's well worth spending 30% more to get a more robust machine with better parts and container. I knew better: small kitchen appliances should start at $60 at least if you want them to last more than 2 years. This one didn't last 2 weeks. My bad. This is a toy and not suited for repeated use over the years. The motor seems like it could power a house. Too bad it will see little use. |
