4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a great food processor with a few bugs., February 27, 2007

If you are looking for a good food processor on a budget then this may be exactly what you're looking for. This beast is very powerful but it really does fall short in a couple areas so I couldn't give it a perfect score. Overall I am happy with my purchase. Let me explain...

First the good. Like I mentioned before this baby is powerful. It feels like you could process a brick in this machine if you really wanted to. The chute is MASSIVE! I read about this before purchasing this processor but I didn't realize the chute was actually this freggin huge! You really can fit good sized tomatoes, onions, green peppers...etc into this chute. I've read reviews that said that this processor is hard to put together. I found that it was a bit akward at first, but once you realize how everything fits it becomes perfectly natural. Also cleanup really is a snap.

Even though this processor is great, there are a few flaws in the design that hinder this from getting a perfect score. My biggest complaint is that there is a good sized gap between the bottom of the chute and the blade. You don't utilize the entire piece of food. For example if you put a potato in the chute and slice it, when you get to the end of the potato it will not slice completely. Instead it will fall into the gap between the chute and the blade and it will spin round and round. There is nothing you can do about this. Sometimes when you shred something, it doesn't come out shredded quite right. This is pretty rare but it does happen.

One other thing is that this beast is MASSIVE! I didn't realize how big this processor really is! Sometimes it seems like it's too big for the job. I don't consider this a good or bad thing because if you have a larger family then this is definitely a plus.

Overall I recommend this processor. It does have a few minor flaws (as they all do) which hinder it from a perfect score, on the other hand it does it's job so well that you can't help but love it. If you are looking for a good food processor for a good price then I recommend taking a look at this one. Price/value wise this is the best food processor i've ever owned.

I've used my food processor for about 8 months now and have had absolutely no problems with it at all. It's quick, powerful, and dishwasher safe. Sometimes it seems a little too big for smaller jobs (like chopping half an onion or some herbs), and it doesn't fit on the counter under my cabinets because it's too tall. But I love it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to clean and a bit weak, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70590 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
I've had my food processor for 8 months, so please take this review to heart. I'm not reviewing it the day I got it.

The area inside the handle is full of gunk and can not be cleaned. I suppose I could pry it apart with a screwdriver, but I shouldn't have to do that. There is also a cylinder in the top feed area that gets gunked up on the inside where it can not be cleaned. I did take one of those tiny 8 sided star screwdrivers to open it and clean it.

If I put anything that has a higher liquid content, it leaks out the edges of the lid.

The top portion cracked on me and now I'm operating it by pressing a knife or fork on the metal dowel thing.

I've only had this for 8 months, but I'm in the market for another brand. I do have a terrific Hamilton Beach coffee maker and I've always considered this a good brand, but the engineering behind this food processor could have used more testing.

It does have a strong motor and it does a nice job on the onions and carrots, but I wouldn't ever buy another Hamilton Beech food processor.
