4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a great food processor with a few bugs.
If you are looking for a good food processor on a budget then this may be exactly what you're looking for. This beast is very powerful but it really does fall short in a couple areas so I couldn't give it a perfect score. Overall I am happy with my purchase. Let me explain...

First the good. Like I mentioned before this baby is powerful. It feels like you...

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to clean and a bit weak
I've had my food processor for 8 months, so please take this review to heart. I'm not reviewing it the day I got it.

The area inside the handle is full of gunk and can not be cleaned. I suppose I could pry it apart with a screwdriver, but I shouldn't have to do that. There is also a cylinder in the top feed area that gets gunked up on the inside where it can...

It feels like you could process a brick in this machine if you really wanted to. The chute is MASSIVE! I read about this before purchasing this processor but I didn't realize the chute was actually this freggin huge! You really can fit good sized tomatoes, onions, green peppers...etc into this chute. I've read reviews that said that this processor is hard to put together. I found that it was a bit akward at first, but once you realize how everything fits it becomes perfectly natural. Also cleanup really is a snap.

Even though this processor is great, there are a few flaws in the design that hinder this from getting a perfect score. My biggest complaint is that there is a good sized gap between the bottom of the chute and the blade. You don't utilize the entire piece of food. For example if you put a potato in the chute and slice it, when you get to the end of the potato it will not slice completely. Instead it will fall into the gap between the chute and the blade and it will spin round and round. There is nothing you can do about this. Sometimes when you shred something, it doesn't come out shredded quite right. This is pretty rare but it does happen.

One other thing is that this beast is MASSIVE! I didn't realize how big this processor really is! Sometimes it seems like it's too big for the job. I don't consider this a good or bad thing because if you have a larger family then this is definitely a plus.

Overall I recommend this processor. It does have a few minor flaws (as they all do) which hinder it from a perfect score, on the other hand it does it's job so well that you can't help but love it. If you are looking for a good food processor for a good price then I recommend taking a look at this one. Price/value wise this is the best food processor i've ever owned.

I've used my food processor for about 8 months now and have had absolutely no problems with it at all. It's quick, powerful, and dishwasher safe. Sometimes it seems a little too big for smaller jobs (like chopping half an onion or some herbs), and it doesn't fit on the counter under my cabinets because it's too tall. But I love it!

I've had my food processor for 8 months, so please take this review to heart. I'm not reviewing it the day I got it.

The area inside the handle is full of gunk and can not be cleaned. I suppose I could pry it apart with a screwdriver, but I shouldn't have to do that. There is also a cylinder in the top feed area that gets gunked up on the inside where it can not be cleaned. I did take one of those tiny 8 sided star screwdrivers to open it and clean it.

If I put anything that has a higher liquid content, it leaks out the edges of the lid.

The top portion cracked on me and now I'm operating it by pressing a knife or fork on the metal dowel thing.

I've only had this for 8 months, but I'm in the market for another brand. I do have a terrific Hamilton Beach coffee maker and I've always considered this a good brand, but the engineering behind this food processor could have used more testing.

It does have a strong motor and it does a nice job on the onions and carrots, but I wouldn't ever buy another Hamilton Beech food processor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast as lightening!!!!!, December 1, 2006

I bought this item thinking it would make life easier in the kitchen...and it did!!!! We like fried potatoes and onions at our house...before it was a rare treat because I hated peeling and slicing the potatoes. Since I got the chopper, all I do is put the whole potato (skin and all, after washed) in the large mouth (if the potato is too big, I cut it in half), turn on the chopper, and it does the job lightning quick. The container is large enough, that all I have to do is leave the newly sliced potatoes in it and go ahead and slice my onion into it also....take off the lid when done and dump the potatoes and onions in the pan. Clean up is a breeze. I just throw everything in the dishwasher and it comes out like brand new. One thing, when you get this item, it comes with paperwork to order a blade that makes thicker slices. For tomatoes you need this because the blade that comes with the big mouth slices tomatoes paper thin and they won't stay together when you pick them up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good addition to any kitchen!, March 13, 2006
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70590 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Food Processor chops evenly and quietly, both when the bowl is filled to capacity and when there's just a single onion. The large feed tube is wonderful; why didn't someone think of it before? The suction-cup feet keep the machine very firmly in place on the counter.

Drawbacks: The machine is so tall it won't fit in any of my cabinets, even with the bowl removed; the motor shaft is as high as the bowl. My food processor stays out on the counter, but that could be problematic for someone whose counter space is at a premium. The food processor comes with just one medium slicer/shredder blade. There are other optional blades and a storage case available for purchase (there's a toll-free number to call for ordering), but I wish they'd been included in the original packaging, even if it increased the price.

Despite the drawbacks, which I consider minor, I'm very happy with the performance of this food processor and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!, November 14, 2006

I have had this for about a year now and I still LOVE it. It can handle most food without having to cut it up first! I have dropped an entire steak in it with some chili seasonings and pulsed it a few times with perfect chili meat results. It's just a bonus that it mixes the spices into the ground meat so nicely! (I have also used left over roasts without having to cut it into pieces)
I make hummus all the time in it as well. Takes about 5 minutes.
There are so many uses for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great machine for a super price, August 1, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70590 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Food Processor is wonderful. We are raw foodists and use this machine at least twice a day. It is easy to use, pretty quiet, doesn't walk all over the counter because of suction cup feet, easy to clean. The large mouth makes it so easy to just about anything in the processor, too.
This is a very hardy machine and does a super job. It is a tall machine, so if your cabinets won't adjust it may be a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bigmouth food processor, February 24, 2006
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70590 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
I love my Bigmouth processor.

It was the least expensive and among the largest capacity (14 cup) food processors.

The only improvement I can see would to have other blades for different slice thickness and special cutters (Like French fry and Julian cutter blades)

I am delighted with the processor. I like that the blades and attachments all fit within the bowl when not in use. While it does not come with all the specialty blades the more expensive processors offer, it has everything I routinely use. It is exactly what I need and you can't beat the price.

We recently received this processor as a gift (sold in Target stores for around $70). We have been surprised to find that it really is as good as everyone says it is, especially given how affordably priced!
When we make tuna salad we literally put half an onion, half an apple and other veggies straight into the bowl, along with the tuna, mayo, mustard and seasonings and pulse a few times. How easy! You really can fit almost anything through that "Big Mouth" chute. Very handy for slicing.
It's a little tall, but fits in our under-counter cabinets with some shelf adjusting. We are very pleased with this product.
