I would have given if 4.5 stars if there was a choice for that. Some cleaning issues (see towards end below) detracted from 5 stars.

I've been using it almost daily for 6 months now and love it. I mainly use it to chop all kinds of vegetables, make pesto, chop garlic, and grate cheese. I picked it for is capacity, since I wanted to minimize my choping time by doing more at once. But, found its very easy cleanup and powerful motor a big bonus. I can fill it to the rim with onions, carrots, kale, what ever, and it is well designed to not only chop when the thing is full, but efficiently move the stuff so that it is chopped throughout, and not just at the bottom. You do have to fill it aleast to a minimum level for this action to work.
I though I should respond to that wildly negative feedback:
>1. It's well over a foot tall and very bulky, taking up ALOT of space. This thing is HUGE.

*well, it is not so huge, but it has a base about equal to the size of the container capacity. So, if you want to use less buy something else with less capacity.

>2. The cord is under the machine and wraps around manually underneath.
*who cares? I never fuble with the cord or wrap it around anything.

>3. The suction cups on the bottom sound like a good idea, but they're more of a pain.

*this is true. It would have been nice if the had a quick release feature. They hold very strong, which is needed sometimes because of its strong power jerks on pulse mode.

>4. I've tried pureeing with it several times. Unless it's filled to the max, it just pushes the food to the side and the blades chop air.

*probably an exaduration, but you do have put enough for the blades to work right. Probably midway is right. I puree tomatoes and pesto with no problem.

>5. I've used the slicing and shredding disks on potatoes, carrots and cheeses and am very disappointed.

*I agree. Slicing is adequate, but the shredding is poorly designed, where if you don't do it right you get chucks that whip around violently. It is controlable to get decent results if you work with it, though.

It is also good quality design. My main, if not only, con is there are some moving parts in the lid that are very hard to clean. It is relatively minor, but could have been done better.

For the price, I could find nothing close to this capacity and power.

Thought I should give back a detailed feedback since other's feedback has always been so helpful.

Well, hope this review helps you.

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
After cooking for my family for 25 years I broke down and decided to buy a food processor. After researching here, I decided this Hamilton Beach Big Mouth was the biggest workhorse for the littlest price. I was right. It is very easy to learn how to operate, it +chops, slices, and grates in seconds, and best of all is its "big mouth." Yep, just stick a whole onion, whole zucchini, or whatever in there and out it comes without dragging out your cutting board and knife to cut it half first.

I also purchased separately the french fry cutter blade, which makes awesome fries at just the right size. A piece of advice: DO NOT go to Walmart, Target, etc. and get this processor without that bonus blade! You really need that as the other blade slices very very thin.

Overall, I am VERY happy with this purchase. I keep it on my counter so I can use it without the pain of getting it out. It looks nice there.

I see the positive reviews for this thing, but I just really hate mine. I've had it for 7 months now, and every time I use it, I end up frustrated. Heck, this this manages to frustrate me even when when I'm not using it because of all the cabinet space it wastes. Here's my list of cons:
1. It's well over a foot tall and very bulky, taking up ALOT of space. This thing is HUGE.
2. The cord is under the machine and wraps around manually underneath. If you wind it in the wrong direction, it won't fit right, so start over. It's also a pain to hook it under the little tabs to keep the cord in place.
3. The suction cups on the bottom sound like a good idea, but they're more of a pain. I would rather have non-slip rubber disks on the bottom. But then again, for a machine as tall as this, perhaps it NEEDS to be suction cupped down.
4. I've tried pureeing with it several times. Unless it's filled to the max, it just pushes the food to the side and the blades chop air.
5. I've used the slicing and shredding disks on potatoes, carrots and cheeses and am very disappointed. When you get to the end of the veggie or cheese it slips in between the lid and the disk, just spinning in circles. When this happened with the potato, I thought the the lid was going to break.
And now for the pros (okay, pro, there's only one:
1. The chopping blade works great to make homemade bread crumbs. It's the only thing I've used it for that it actually works as it should. But even then, it's such a hassle to use, I end up frustrated. I'm going to send mine off to Goodwill and get a KitchenAid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best home food processor I have owned, April 13, 2006
By
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
I have purchased a series of 6 or 7 food processors over the past 15 years. Other than by hand blender, the Big Mouth is the most functional, flexible and powerful food processor I have ever owned.

We added this machine to our bridal registry after seeing a commercial for the Big Mouth. The commercial was humorous, but they did not lie about the machine's capabilities.

You really can fit in a huge variety of foods in to the feeding tube. Whole tomatoes, quartered heads of iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, blocks of chocolate fit right in and can be shredded in less time than it takes for you to read this review.

For example, we like to make a brazilian type of salad with carrots, red cabbage, onion and garlic. Making it by hand takes 20-30 minutes so we used to not make it all that often.

With the Big Mouth all I do is quarter a red cabbage and drop the quarters in to the food tube with a couple of cloves of garlic and a whole red onion. Using the fine shredder it takes less than 10 seconds to shred these ingredients. I then add in 5-6 peeled carrots and 10 seconds later they are shredded. Add a little vinegarette and we're done in under 5 minutes - peeling time for the carrots included.

A couple of nice design touches round out an impressive machine:
1 - The chopping blade is uniquely shaped and slightly serrated. It seems to be able to cut through tough ingredients better than the blades on other food processors I have owned.

2 - The work bowl is also slightly angled outward so that food tends to stick less to the side. This comes in handy when pureeing soups, sauces etc.

3 - The speed/pulse dial allows for a range of slicing dicing options.

4 - The suction cups on the bottom really do hold this thing in place. This is important because this is a powerful machine that generates a lot of torque.

5 - The suction cups on my machine have not fallen off despite a lot of use. Most machines I have owned in the past lose their suction cups or little sticky 'feet' within a couple of months.

6 - The work bowl is huge. I have used this to puree a couple of quarts of tomatoes in one shot. No need to puree in batches - an inevitably messy process.

7 - The expanding feeding tube is amazing. I salute the engineer that came up with that little innovation.

We have been using it now for 7 months with not a single problem. I highly recommend this food processor, either for yourself or as a gift.

I bought this about a week ago and it is fantastic! I love how you don't have to do any chopping beforehand, you just put the whole fruit or vegetable in and away it goes! It is really easy to clean too, it is even dishwasher safe! This product has a great price tag too! I would recommend this product...it has been great so far!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy the hype, July 7, 2006
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
After reading the reviews on this, I thought why not? Should make cooking easier. Apparently, I should have only read one review ,which is listed and that is the one titled, "Not what I expected" or maybe it is just the two of us. Every complaint in his review was accurate.
1. The processor is bulky - no place to store (What did I expect for the 14 cup container) Ok so this is my fault. But this only begins my list of complaints.
2. The processor is so powerful it turns items to mush within mili-seconds (Ok who can complain about more power) this ends the common sense things.
3. When slicing carrots, potatoes, cucumbers, onions or, anything else for that matter - when you get to the bottom the machine throws the final pieces between the blade and the lid and spins them around at the speed of light. I keep waiting for one to break through the lid and impale me. (This should have been addressed by the engineers)
4. Unless you are planning on using the entire 14 cups (Cooking for the Smith family reunion)- the machine throws all of the food to the side of the container - where they don't even get touched by the blade.
5. Suction cup feature - I am a 200 lb 6'2 man - the machine comes with a free spatula that comes from the dollar store. Instead Hamilton beach should have thrown in a free crowbar to help pry the machine from the counter top.
6. Hamilton beach advertises you can put whole foods in the mouth of the unit - well I guess - very small tomatoes, or onions. Try placing a red onion in this machine - good luck.
7. This unit is so large, I have to take it a car wash to clean.
- Now I will give Hamilton Beach the benefit of the doubt...This is the first processor I have owned, so I don't really know how to compare it to other processors - and maybe the mess that it creates is excellent to an individual who enjoys their salad smothered in carrot, pepper, egg, onion, cucumber, and tomato soup. Trust me, the nice, evenly cut, crisp vegetables you see on the box were cut by hand or by a better machine and you WILL NOT even get close to these results with this processor. I have several other complaints, however I feel that if you have read this far and still purchase the machine my attempts at saving you the $70.00 are futile. Hey on the bright side, make sure you keep the box and packaging, the machine looks really nice and expensive, great for re-gifting (Just make sure you don't regift it to the person that regifted it to you).

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME PRODUCT - AFFORDABLE PRICE / QUALITY!, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
My first food processor was Hamilton Beach from the late 70's and it was still going strong but I accidently threw away the main "S" blade and trying to find a replacement did not occur to me. I bought two low price food processors at Walmart at the sale prices of between $19.99 and $29.99 both of which were useless, food got stuck and what a mess. I was so frustrated both times I wish I could remember the brand name because I would gladly put it down right here. I decided to stick with Hamilton Beach and found this one at the best price on Amazon with free shipping no less. This has been used extensively over the last three months and I love it more each time! My son is using it as well, loves it, and has never been into using a food processor before. I got one for a close friend recently and she wonders how she did without it. Enough said. Buy this. I make many dishes that require potatoes to be grated and/or almost pureed (potatoe pancakes, kugele - a Lithuanian dish - latkes)
This does the trick in but a couple of minutes. I must inject it is about double the size of my initial one, so I now do one load of potatoes and my job is done. I could go on and on. Buy this. Seriously. I would be totally surprised if you were not as pleased as I am. I don't find it takes up much space and I leave it on my very limited counter. Definitely, obviously, keep the blade(s) out of the reach of children and after washing put these sharp pieces either inside the cup and/or safely in a clear plastic container in your cupboard for easy access. Just a helpful tip.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well, it is only $59.95, August 1, 2006
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

The main thing this food processor has going for it is the size of the food bowl. It also chops and slices very fast. Those are the only good things I have found about it.

Here's what's not good about it.
1. The blades are poorly balanced and the machine vibrates wildly. If it weren't for the rubber suction feet, it would end up on the floor.
2. The blades are simply not rigid enough to produce consistent slices, particularly with more dense vegetables like carrots and potatoes.
3. The large mouth is actually a disadvantage because of the angle the food can get relative to the blade. The result with the slicer blade is half chopped, half sliced. It's very inconsistent.
4. The design of the lid makes it very hard to clean. It has a sliding opening on top to locate the pusher over the food. There is no easy way to clean it. Food also collects in the hinge of the food holder chute and no good way to clean that either.
5. Shredding is also quite inconsistent. It ranges from bits as small as a pencil point to shreds several inches in length.
6. Chopped foods don't always fall cleanly into the bowl. About 10% stays on top of the blade.

I have since bought a Cuisinart and it is the difference between night and day. But hey, it was only $59.95.

This review is from: Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor with Bonus Blade (Kitchen)
I absolutely LOVE this machine and the price is OUTSTANDING. I have never been able to make a pie crust that didn't need a jack hammer in order to be able to eat the insides. This does all the work for you. Just add the dry ingredients and then the wet ones and PRESTO you have a pie crust that will roll out without any problems whatsoever. I have only used it for this purpose so can't tell you anything else about it but THE PRICE IS THE BEST. Everywhere in town for this large of a processor wanted almost $200.
