I received this knife back in November and generally do not write reviews on products but I have to say if you are considering purchasing it JUST DO IT. I have carved up approx. 24 roast beefs and 3 turkeys since having it and it hasn't stalled out yet and doesn't seem as though it will. I hope I am not jinxing myself by writing this but give it a shot the worse that can happen is you will return it for a full refund. GOOD LUCK

This is a great little electric knife set. The knife is powerful, the blades are sharp, and the handy cutting fork and storage box make it a sweet deal. It took me only a minute to figure out the best way to open the plastic storage box, so don't be too discouraged by the other reviewers. I didn't find it all that difficult, and it's so handy to have everything stored neatly together.

If you're looking for a good deal on an electric knife, I recommend the 74250 Hamilton Beach Carve 'N Set.

This is a really nice electric knife carving set. I bought it because it was such a good deal and also because i always find myself saying, "Gee, it would be much easier to cut this <blah> up if i had an electric knife." And now i have one. The nice storage box, not mentioned very well in description, makes it very easy to store. It is very annoying with other knives i have seen to have blades in one place, electrical part in another and carving fork somewhere else. this makes it very easy to store in one place. And its from a name you know and love!

I hate this knife. I've had it for a year now and every once in a while I figure I'll give it another shot so I pull it out again and am quickly reminded of why I hate it.

First: the two blades are too far apart - I end up with a good fraction of what I'm cutting getting shredded BETWEEN to the two blades.

Second: there's no lock for the trigger so you have to hold it down for the entirety of the slice (and if sawing through a thick roast, you're holding it down for a REALLY long time).

Third: The handle is large and awkward. I don't have small hands but just to be sure, I had my large handed friend try it. He didn't consider it to be particularly comfortable either.

I'm going to see if I can find a better electric knife because, lord knows, a good one could get a lot of use in my kitchen. The "try agains" for this one are over - I'm putting it on Ebay for some other unfortunate soul to use. Clearly there are a lot of positive reviews so I'll sell it to someone who might actually like the thing!

I am returning this item. As the other reviewers wrote, the blade wiggles sideways making it difficult to slice cleanly. Also the handle gets very hot to the touch. I had a hard time holding it after a few minutes. This machine does not do justice to what a wonderful tool an electric knife can be.

I bought this electric knife to replace a 25-year old Sunbeam model which needed to be replaced. I use it weekly to slice homemade bread, and much less often for meat and other uses.

In so many ways, this product deserved to be tossed into the trash, but fortunately I still had the receipt so was able to return it. I hated to do it, because I feel sorry for the person who buys it next.

The handle is large and bulky. I do not have small hands, and I play the piano so I am accustomed to stretching my fingers. The handle is also too smooth and my hand slipped as my fingers attempted to use the trigger. The trigger is on the bottom of the handle. This is fine because my old one was too, but it has some sort of crazy safety feature where you not only have to stretch to hold down the trigger but you also have to slide it back as well. Extremely awkward and, after slicing 3 loaves of bread, my hand was numb.

Shame on HB for designing this. I returned it and bought a Cusiniart which I have hopes for because the handle is a nice shape, a textured finish, and and easy-to-operate trigger.

I used this last night for the first time for carving my T-giving turkey. It STINKS. The handle, when slick with grease from the turkey, is nearly impossible to hold. Your hand slips forward and it is nearly impossible to push the button. I had to use two hands to hold it, which is less than desirable. Plus, it barely had enough power to cut through some real small ligaments. Overall, not worth your time. Why they make it with a slippery plastic with nothing to provide a sure non-slip gripping surface is beyond me.

I tried it for the 1st time today cutting a loaf from the local bakery. Had a hard time with the thick crust. After 6 slices, motor started to smell. Everyone else seems to like theirs. Maybe mine's defective? I am sending it back.

My 20-year-old electric knife just recently quit working, so it was time to select a new one. What sold me on this one was the nice case to neatly hold my knife, blades, and even a carving fork all in one organized case. Why? After 20 years of searching for the blades in one place, and the knife in another ... and then searching for my fork, it was time for a change. Search no more ... now everything I need to carve my roast, turkey, or ham is in one spot in the cabinet above my microwave. I love it!

In addition to the case, the knife is everything I need ... enough power and sharp enough to cut whatever meat needs cutting. So if your 20-year-old electric knife bites the dust, take a look at this one. You might be just as pleased as I am!
