The can opener works well and leaves no sharp edges. It is attractive and easy to use. However, it does not shut off automatically as claimed in Amazon's description. Even the owner's manual says it does not shut off automatically. Had I known this, I would have purchased the 76606 model and saved $10 since I don't need another pair of scissors, the only difference between the two models as far as I can tell.

The Hamilton Beach opener works fine. The only thing is sometimes you have to run the opener long enough to cycle the can around more than once to properly separate the top from the can. However, once the top is separated the top and the can have no sharp edges whatsoever. The process of inserting the can in the opener is very easy and once inserted the opening is hands free except for holding down the power lever. Once the opening is accomplished the can is easily removed. This is a great can opener and I hope it has a long service life.

This can opener is GREAT. I hate spending time trying to find just the right place to align the can with the opener; especially in the AM when I'm barely awake trying to open a can of tuna for the cats, digging my fingers into the yuk fishing for the craggy lid. This can opener has changed my life, so to speak, because it's smooth, there's no fiddling with cans, you just push that sucker up to the opener and zoom, it's clean, its' smooth and it's open. Buy this can opener and it will be the last can opener you ever buy.

THIS CAN OPENER WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN. IT OPENS EVERY KIND OF CAN FROM LITTLE POP TOP CAT FOOD CANS TO SOUP CANS TO BIG HEAVY DUTY TOMATO SAUCE CANS. THE BEST PART - IT LEAVES NO SHARP EDGES ON THE LID OR THE CAN. SAFE FOR CHILDREN TO USE. I USED TO DREAD MY OLD RECHARGABLE CAN OPENER. IT WAS HARD TO LINE UP ON THE CAN AND DIDN'T HOLD A CHARGE FOR MORE THAN ONE DAY (NOT TO MENTION THE SHARP EDGES). THIS HAMILTON BEACH IS THE TOP OF THE LINE!

Ok I have had a few issues with dirty lids falling into my cans of soup in the past. If you are like me this product is the answer to that problem. It does a very neat job. You can even sit the lid back on the can and stick it in the frig if you have leftovers. Opener has better build quality than even the "premium" brand openers. I did pay the extra $10 for the model 76607 only to find out the difference is a "dollar store" pair of scissors were included. The only problem I have had is with cans from Aldi's. The opener generates metal slivers on their cans. I just use a hand opener on those so I don't obsess about the slivers! I would give five stars to the model without scissors.

It works beautifully, it works just like the cheaper one works! The only difference between this one and the Hamilton Beach 76606 Pop-Top Electric Can Opener, Black and Chrome is a small pair of scissors and .... Actually the price of the scissors has gone down to $7, still seems steep to me but may be worth it, I'm not a scissors expert.

{Now the hands free possibly refers to the fact that the can opener holds the can itself, which it does, but the 'automatic shut off' implies there's something to shut off, but no, since you have to hold it on, there is no automatic shut off.}

It's still not worth the money compared to the next model down, but it's a very good can opener otherwise.

Why is there no stand side opening can opener that is hands free?

I really like the fact that the top of the can is opened on the outside without any sharp edges. I like this can opener but have two complaints. It is too noisy and doesnt open 16 oz cans without several turns. It opens my small cat cans with one turn. I would like to see the company improve the noise and ability to open larger cans.

I got this can opener when my other one went belly up. I am real happy with it. Love the style, and it fits in oh so great with my appliances. The other reviews stated it doesn't open without several rotations on a larger can but I hadn't noticed this, and if it does, it wouldn't bother me one bit as I often forget where I started, and it goes around part of another rotation. The opener cuts where there are no sharp edges. This can opener is a whole lot better then the one that went out.

We have had under the cabinet can openers in the past. I ordered one but it would not fit under our kitchen cabinets. So I looked at this counter top can opener. It does a wonderful job of cutting every can type so far with no sharp edges!! It is heavy and very stable when opening a heavy can. My wife loves it. Even cooking now at home more!!! I know already that it is worth the cost versus the low cost versions in the marketplace. Time will determine the lasting quality. The lever LOCKS the can securely to do the job NO matter the type. Hamilton Beach needs to keep up the excellent engineering design on more of their models. They have designed a winner in my opinion.

I love, love, love this can opener! Before this appliance I used to hate using electric can openers because they were noisy, messy, and such a hassle. Then some years ago, due to physical limitations, I found it necessary to try again and, fortunately, we lucked out with the Hamilton Beach 76607. Over the years it's been dependable; easy-to-use; quiet; attractive; it never fails to open cans leaving safe, smooth edges; and it doesn't take up much space. As many other appliances have proven themselves to be lemons in our household, our Hamilton Beach 76607 can opener has proven itself to be a peach!
