Amazon.com Review

Ice buckets can be messy and cause damaging watermarks. With ten pre-programmed settings, this insulated thermoelectric wine chiller/warmer maintains consistent temperatures for up to 12 hours--hassle free. Serving wine at recommended temperatures allows for enjoying the wine’s best flavor. A permanent guide on the back of the thermos indicates the correct setting for keeping sparkling, blush, white, or red wines cool and sake warm. The temperature gauge ranges from 34 to 122 degrees, while the thermos itself measures 8 by 8 by 12 inches. --Catie Unger

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, if you can stand the noise., July 18, 2005

I was given one of these about a year ago, I tried it briefly and it's been collecting dust in my closet ever since. It does chill wine. In fact, it does it pretty well. Unfortunately, it also has inside it a loud fan which is always on. Picture a quiet evening for two, a candlelight dinner and this gizmo sitting nearby that looks like a miniature nuclear power plant cooling tower and sounds like a hair dryer and you can see the problem with this thing. It's just too darn noisy! Also rather ugly, imo. A more pleasant solution would be to keep the wine in one of those wrap-around gel packs for chilling wine that you keep in the freezer until needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wine chiller worth evey penny, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 80255 Thermos Wine Chiller (Kitchen)
I live in the desert southwest where it is difficult to keep your wine at the ideal drinking temperature in the summer months of 100+ degrees outside. For anyone who likes to enjoy their favorite wine on their patio in the summer, this wine cooler is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep chillin, July 24, 2005

This wine chiller does a good job at keeping your wine chilled at the proper temperature. Operative word "keeping". It takes quite a while for it to chill down to the desired temperature; i.e. a bottle of red wine takes about 1 hour. The best technique is to chill the wine first, in the freezer or with an ice sleeve for 5-10 minutes, then put it in the Thermos wine chiller to put it at the "proper" temperature. Additionally, this chiller runs on DC current, not batteries; and is not silent, it makes a low humming sound while it's running. It is more convenient than an ice bucket, keeps the wine at the correct temperature, but don't expect it to chill your beverage quickly.
