5.0 out of 5 stars Best design for a manual juicer
I bought this juicer after trying an orangex juicer that broke on the 4th orange I put through it. My Hamilton-Beach juicer has lasted through a whole bag now, so here's the scoop:

3.0 out of 5 stars Has some PLASTIC in contact with the juice
If you are concerned with the contact of acid and plastic, like I am, then don't get this juicer. The funnel that seats the SS juicing cone is plastic. In the description is says metal construction, but they neglected to mention the juice drains through plastic. Shoot. Other than that, is seems solid. Shipping was fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best design for a manual juicer, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 932 Commercial Citrus Juicer, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this juicer after trying an orangex juicer that broke on the 4th orange I put through it. My Hamilton-Beach juicer has lasted through a whole bag now, so here's the scoop:

Good things:
1) Rack & pinion action effectively transfers the applied force to the squeezer. There's no off-axis force so you don't have to worry about the whole darn thing tipping over when you bear down.

2) Gratifyingly simple to disassemble and clean.

3) The metal grate's edges are machined smooth - - no worries about getting cut (one of the problems I had with the orangex product).

4) When you remove your juice glass, a drip cup swings into place to keep residual juice drippings off your countertop. That is a very user-friendly design element.

5) The mechanism does a good job of extracting all of the juice.

6) The resulting juice did not have any hint of strong citrus oil.

Other things:
For a product that bills itself as "professional grade", it seems like it could be easy to overpower & break something if you 'hang on the lever'. I would not be too overzealous about squeezing the last drops if dealing with a grapefruit or a really big orange, for fear of breaking something. But for lemons, limes, and standard size oranges it seems just fine.

While the unit doesn't weigh very much, it's pretty tall -- about 20" in its fully-down, storage position -- so storage may be an issue for some.

Overall:
I'm glad I got this one.

I tried some cheaper pressure juicers like arcosteel and typhoon. Although these two got the idea, they were far away from jucing oranges (they can do lemons and limes OK). Thyphoon got some design issues though. Hamilton Beach is good for small and mid-size oranges (haven't tried large orange or grapefruit yet). It has enough power and capacity to get all the juice out. I can get one glass of juice from two oranges whereas it took three oranges with arcosteel and more with typhoon.

HB has larger and stronger pressure cup that gets the job done. The strainer has little round holes all over the place so juice finds its way down. Others had fewer but larger holes which allowed the white stuff inside the orange get into the juice but also smashed the orange against nonperforated surface. HB's strainer holds the pulp stuck inside wall which can be later scraped and put bak into the juice or discarded. It is not the intention to callect pulp this way probably but I usually scrape it and put it back to the juice for extra fiber.

I also noticed that juice is sweeter because there is lees skin oil. With others, there was more oil and that made the juice taste bitter. I guess it is related with the number of holes being more in HB. Therefore, there is less pressure on the skin.

It is easy to clean. You need to line up the groves and edges to disasemble. Drip collection cup works like charm.
Everytime I squees oranes with HB, it think about what I read once from another review "juice galore". If you tried others, you will like this one. I didn't give 5 stars because it is not perfect (1- squeezing arm stands in lower angle at the time of squeeze, not an efficient angle to use your muscles efficiently if it sit on a normal height countertop, 2- it may not have the same efficiency with larger oranges and grapefruits, and 3- it is kind of expensive but thanks to Amazon.com I got a very good deal). Hope this review helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very simple but effective, April 15, 2005
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 932 Commercial Citrus Juicer, Black (Kitchen)
The juicer works well and the other reviewers have got it right. I just wanted to add two observations to buyers. First, the juicer is very tall so it doesn't fit underneath you kitchen cabinets. Second, there is a limit to the size of the fruit you can juice. The only oranges I could find at first where large eating oranges and although they could be juiced not all of the orange was juiced. When I started using valencia oranges which are smaller and tangerines it completely juices the fruit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Better Mousetrap, March 7, 2006

Sometimes you just can't improve on the original - this Manual Juicer stays on our counter all the time, unlike the food processer, blender, etc. It is THE best juicer I have ever used and now that I have it, I find it indespensible. I juiced two bushels of lemons (which I froze for later use) and it seemed like it took more time to cut the lemons in half than to actual juice them, and when you're done, there is NO juice left to be had in the lemon. It's GREAT!

Sometime in the late 1940's, my parents got one of these HB lever action squeezers as a Christmas gift. 60+ years later it is in my kitchen; my wife won't part with it. It absolutely extracts every drop out of an orange effortlessly.
I am buying another for my son.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bartender's dream, July 15, 2005
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 932 Commercial Citrus Juicer, Black (Kitchen)
I used this exact same model when I bartended. I worked sunday brunch for awhile, and I had to juice ALL the fresh OJ for the whole restaraunt! This thing works like a champ. I remember leaning on the handle to get the last drops of juice out! I told myself if I ever found the model I would get it, so here goes!

A great juicer, minimal work for fresh juice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pomegranate juicer around..., November 17, 2009

Every year we harvest our pomegranates from our tree and prepare jelly for friends and acquaintances for gifts at Christmas. We've juiced pomegranates about every way imaginable, but this commercial citrus juicer is a home run for juicing pomegranates all the way! After juicing, a couple passes through the cheese cloth, and the liquid is ready for preparing the jelly. I'm so glad we purchased this juicer!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice juicer :), June 27, 2006

I just got this juicer and it seems very suitable for the job. Usage and cleaning are very convenient. The design is very simple and elegant. And the unit is light enough to move around. It's not going to be a permanent counter top piece since it's very big. Looks like it would last for a while.

Tips for use: Start with your hand fully extended when you are standing in front of the juicer, if you stand closer the movement will be more difficult to execute. Apply slow and steady pressure on the lever from start to the end of the movement, stopping mid motion is also ok if you start again slowly. That is much preferred to abrupt high-pressure movements. If you are applying to much pressure when the orange is fully quizzed, there would be a strange noise when the skin of the fruit is starting to get juiced and you can see some drops from the oil in the skin, better stop before that.

One problem I found with it is that you can potentially cause damage if you use it without an orange. Pressing it empty would easily break the internal parts.

Regarding Amazon service, they were taking two months to ship the unit, and changed the shipping dates several times after promising a shipping date. I canceled the order and ordered from another company who would match their price 115$ with free shipping.

If I had known this was so good, I would have asked for it years ago. It simply gets all the juice from the fruit and has a cup that is the correct premeasured size. It cleans easily as it comes apart easily.

Great Value!

5.0 out of 5 stars Juicer is worthy of a restaurant, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 932 Commercial Citrus Juicer, Black (Kitchen)
I use this juicer everyday at a very high end restaurant ( I can't mention the name) but I use this squeezing about 100 fruits a day including oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes, a day and it works great I would highly recommend this to anyone, though It does require a bit a pull and strength to squeeze a large fruit, the trick is to bring the fruit to room temp, or even rinse the fruit with warm to hot water before squeezing. This way you will get twice the juice and save money.
