3.0 out of 5 stars Should have gone with my first impulse.
I tried a Cuisinart blender at a friends house and was impressed by the way it absolutely destroyed ice in a frozen drink. Reveiws of this product on Amazon, however, disuaded me from buying it and instead persuaded me to buy the Hamilton Beach. It doesn't work as well and leaves small chunks of ice in the drink despite 30 seconds of "blending" and "pulsing".

I internet shopped for a week, reading consumer reports and customer reviews of just about every blender made. I decided on this one based on my research and I am glad I did. I make my husband fruit and juice smoothies almost every day after work and with this machine it is a fast, easy job. Ice and frozen fruit are blended into the drink very quickly.

It is a little loud but it is worth the noise to have 500 watts of power. I also like the fact the base is heavy cast metal, the pitcher is thick, solid glass with a tight fitting lid and the blade is stainless. I like the easy to use control knob and the fact it has 2, yes just 2 speeds. I find most machines with 12 to 20 little buttons are fairly useless and all those speeds rarely used, they also take up more counter space because the bases have to be bigger for all the buttons.

The fact that the Hamilton Beach comes in 6 colors is just icing on the cake and the Moroccan Red is gorgeous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blended by the light, February 6, 2006
This powerful and sylish blender replaced an old 12 speed Oster which had me grumbling with every use. Two of the primary selection factors were the fact it was NOT an Oster and the wide-based glass pitcher.

I've used this blnder to date to whirr together protein breakfast smoothies, make soup, and mix seasoning rub. It worked well, evenly distributing the contents quickly, and pureeing squash soup to silky smoothness. I like the pulse feature on this model, and feel two speeds is all I need. I have not used this blender to chop ice, and I use fresh or partially thawed fruit for my smoothies, so I cannot speak to that feature.

I especially like the glass pitcher, which is wider near the blades, easing cleaning. This also seems to help distribute protein powder better than the old Oster, although that is sort of like saying a gasoline lawn mower is more effective than pruning shears to mow the lawn.

The plastic cover seems less wimpy than the Oster, and has yet to warp out of shape in the dishwasher. I also find the pitcher is MUCH easier to take apart and reassemble for cleaning. I like the pitcher's stability, and it is attractive enough to serve from. It is heavy, but that is the trade-off with glass. So far, I am very happy and only wish I had not waited so long.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Simple Design, February 17, 2005

Nice, retro design- really great colors (I opted for the apple green). My only wish is that it were a bit more powerful. It is perfect for making smoothies, which was why I bought it.

...UPDATE...one person asked if this blender will crush ice by itself. It will not.

This blender is outstanding -- powerful and pretty. Should have been - however -- "dishwasher safe".

5.0 out of 5 stars Careful - it blends!, December 26, 2009

I just used my new blender for the first time, but having been used to using a blender with a very weak motor, I must have not put enough ice in the mix... because after 20 seconds of blending, the ice disappeared. Completely gone. I was left with nothing but liquid! So I poured out half my liquid and added more ice - and after 10 seconds of blending I got "the perfect margarita." I love my new blender! Now that I've got a handle on the power this thing has, I can't wait to make perfect margaritas (with plenty of ice) every time. The best part is that this blender has a very small footprint and fits easily in my cupboard assembled, taking up half the space of my old blender!

I've long been on a quest for the perfect blender--this is my fifth one in the past three years (RIP, one Magic Bullet, two Hamilton Beach single-serves, and one Back to Basics Express). I use it every day to make a breakfast smoothie using frozen fruit, so I'm tough on blenders. I chose this one because unlike most other inexpensive models, it has a much more powerful motor; 500W vs. 175-350W. I've been using it for about a month, and am mostly pleased. The biggest problem I have with this blender is its tendency to push things up rather than around; I often have to stop it and stick a spoon down into the smoothie to pop the air bubble that forms around the blades, causing them to spin ineffectively, and when the mixture is more liquid, it tends to slosh rather than blending smoothly. But it does make short work of the frozen fruit, so that's a big plus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Blender, October 13, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This blender looks wonderful and holds a lot of liguid, easy to clean and very sturdy. I did notice that it sometimes has difficulty blending chunks of fruit and needs to be stirred a few times to get the right position to blend. And it's also a bit noisy when blending. But over all, I'm delighted to have it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost the Greatest!, March 26, 2006
I have NEVER had a blender that could make a great smoothie. Always chunks of frozen fruit, blocks of ice, but if I leave this easy to use off-on machine on long enough, it about gets it done. It a beautiful color, easy to clean, no leaking (yet) and hopefully the blade rotor on the underside will hold up -- I've had this part go on 100% of blenders. I'll know next year!

I got this blender two weeks ago and have been using it to make milkshakes. It works very well, but sometimes you need to blend twice to make sure all the fruit lumps have moved around and been blended. Upsides: it's stylish, matches my toaster, and the whole thing feels good quality. The jug is made of nice heavy glass and the blender is sturdy. It's also not too noisy. Downsides: it's expensive. I bought it as a visual treat for myself, so if you just need something that does the job, you might be better off with something cheaper. If you need something super-fancy that makes bar quality margaritas, pls read some of the other reviews...Re seller: this blender is actually available in several colors from various different vendors for vastly different prices, i.e. this is not the only entry in the Amazon catalog. I recommend doing a specific search on the blender, and seeing what comes up. Also, I recommend getting the one shipped by Amazon/Target. Some of the other reviews weren't very happy with the other sellers and I read most of them. So this is something to keep in mind.
