Simply Amazing,
By Roscoe (Taxachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Electric Kettle 40898
I bought this kettle because I wanted one that was all stainless steel on the inside. With some of the cheaper electric kettles, God only knows what chemicals are leaching out of the plastic and into the water you're about to drink. Many of the reviews of the plastic hot pots even mention the plastic smell of the water after you heat it. This is why I spent the extra thirty dollars to get one that was all stainless steel.Regarding the construction, the kettle is double-walled stainless steel with an air gap or other insulation in between. This keeps the outside from getting hot during and after heating the water. Another nice feature is that there isn't an exposed heating element inside the kettle, so you don't have to worry about minerals building up on it. The cover is well designed. You press a button on the cover itself and it installs onto two pivot points at the top of the kettle. There is a button on the top of the handle that you can press to either lock the cover closed, or open it so you can pour in the water. I've only had the kettle a couple weeks, so I can't speak to its longevity, however I am amazed every time I use it just how fast it heats the water to boiling. I use it in my cubicle at work and it's very quiet, although as the water approaches a boil, you can hear a simmering noise. It's nothing more than you get when you boil water on the stove, so that's to be expected. I would encourage anyone who is interested in getting an electric kettle to buy this model. It seems to be a very well designed and manufactured product.

THE BEST - NO PLASTIC WATER TASTE - ALL STAINLESS STEEL INSIDE,
By mmindigo (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Electric Kettle 40898
I love this kettle. You pour the water through a large opening made possible by an easily removable lid, into a completely seamless stainless steel kettle. The spout is wide and efficient. When you are holding the pot your hand doesn't touch the hot kettle because there is a plastic strip preventing burning. The only thing that people might prefer is a more visible line to determine "Max" level. I use my 4 qt measuring cup to pour the water. The water is boiled in about 3 minutes. The only thing I would like to see added to a kettle, which I haven't seen anywhere, is the ability to set it to go only to 180º since I drink mostly green tea. Now I just let the water cool a minute, add the jasmine pearls and voila. A big bonus ~ there are many questions about boiling and plastic ~ with this pot you don't have to worry ~ it's all seamless steel inside. Enjoy!!

Broke after 6 months,
By BB "BB" (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 8 Cup Electric Kettle 40898
Worked great but broke after 6 months. Would not turn on. It is all steel inside but the lid is plastic. Made in China.Update Oct 21, 2008. After it broke, the company replaced it without any problems. The replacement is still working but makes strange clicking sounds sometimes so it may be on the way out too. One comment about other people saying that it leaks. It is solid metal inside, no seams, so it doesn't really leak. What happens sometimes is if you overfill it, the boiling water escapes through an opening inside (close to the very top). So this is not really a defect. This is the only electric kettle I know of that is all solid metal inside.
