I was hoping to get an appliance that would allow me to make smoothies, sauces, gravies, and soups. Thus far, it's done all those things very well, leaving no chunky matter in the final mix. The only potential trouble is that the blade is relatively shallow, which forces you to have quite a bit of liquid in order for it to blend properly. While it won't make a paste, it does a very good job of making creamy drinks, and dips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, July 4, 2011

I bought this blender for home use after I got tired of repairing home blenders. The base, jar, cutter, and drive are all metal - no rubber, plastic or glass parts to wear out, crack, shatter, or accumulate food odors. I assume the motor and the cutter bearing are commercial quality and will last a long time in home use. Everything I can see looks robust.

This blender offers just two speeds, which I find sufficient. It does a good job with soups, sauces, and smoothies. As another reviewer mentioned it's not designed for dry ingredients without liquid. However, with some patience I've been able to puree fruits without adding liquid. Cleanup is really easy. The assembled unit is quite tall, but using a cork in place of the fluid cup lets it fit in my fridge. It's pretty noisy, and the sound has a different character from that of home blenders I've used, but it's nowhere near requiring ear protection. My wife hates the look, but I didn't buy it for display.

Altogether I'd call this product effective and worth the price.
