great coffee maker,
By
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 12-c. Percolator, Stainless Steel.
I have owned 3 of them over the past 13 years. We have always been on well water or county water system, therefore, our water has "stuff" in it. The "stuff" is very hard on appliances. A drip coffee maker would last about 6 month in our house. I got tired of replacing them all the time. Another thing I like about a percolator in general is that you don't use filters, so it is more eco-friendly.
Con--- Eventually, they do wear out and I have to get another one.

Good Coffee,

The Hamilton Beach coffee percolator makes good coffee, better than that made by drip coffee makers, even the best, most expensive kind. The coffee the Hamilton Beach percolator makes is hot, really hot, when first made, and it stays hot, even when I make a large pot of coffee and drink it throughout the day. I like really hot coffee. The Hamilton Beach has a big drawback. The percolator stem doesn't seat well into the heating element in the bottom of the pot. If the percolator stem isn't seated just right in the bottom of the pot, all you get at the end of the coffee-making process is a pot of very hot water, not coffee. I have a smaller, 6 cup Farberware percolator that doesn't have this seating problem. I'm so frustrated with the Hamilton Beach because of the difficulty in seating the percolator stem, I'm thinking of replacing it with a larger Farberware pot.

Looks good. But if you fill for 10 or 12 cups it has a tendency to drip out between lid and pot section. We made sure lid was on tight, but that didn't help. Husband uses 8 cup level and it is ok.

Great percolator, important tips.,

This percolator exceeded my expectations. Makes great coffee and after perking really hot coffee then drops the temp automatically to keep the coffee warm for hours.Beware getting water in the "inlet" for the plug in the base, as it will instantly trip the ground fault interrupter wall outlet (or your breaker)and shut off after you plug the pot in. So, when you rinse or fill it, be careful about getting water in there. I now leave the cord plugged into the pot (not the wall) when rinsing and filling. DO NOT buy the glass knob recommended by amazon.com, as this model does not have a hole in the lid. To insert the knob you'd have to take it to a machine shop and have a hole cut.

Does the job very well. Also uses less of the coffee I buy[100% colombian] than was needed in the previous percolator I used.

Only lasts 6 months,
This review is from: Hamilton Beach 12-c. Percolator, Stainless Steel.
I have purchased 3 Hamilton Beach percolators & 1 Cuisinart, all have only lasted 6 months to a year (the heating element stops working). After reading reviews on numerous websites it seems this is a common complaint. I am now looking for a percolator that has an automatic cut off switch. I use to have one that shut off after an hour & it lasted several years. Percolators make the best cup of coffee but $40-$90 (w/shipping & taxes) every 6 months is annoying not to mention all the time I spend looking for a new one. Off to search the world wide web for a new & improved way to enjoy my morning cup of java!

This is a very good percolator, makes excellent coffee in minutes. The lid is a little hard to remove to make coffee. I'm on a well system so it's just what I needed.
