Let's make one thing clear from the start: This is a folding frame commonly known as a wire stand, and is used by traveling musicians. That means it's relatively delicate. Although I chose this stand as a gift after seeing how well an identical stand held up for more than twenty years, it's not the sort of stand you'd put together and leave up for practice. It will not take the abuse dished out by many budding musicians. If that's what you're looking for, you'd be better served by the type of stands used by school bands. But, if you're looking for a stand to take to competition, this one certainly deserves consideration.

As with the older stand, this one has some heat discoloration where it was put together. To us (myself and the recipient), it didn't detract from the overall appearence. There was some slight scratches from the way it was packaged from the factory. It uses clamps instead of screw fittings to tighten the the stand, which is why I think the older stand held up so well. Whether the nickle finish will hold up better than chrome I can't say, I only know the older stand still had the finish intact.

Be aware that this stand does not come with a case. I had to buy one separately. If you're wanting this for competition, be sure to get a case, as the cardboard box it comes it isn't the best way to carry it to events.

Overall we're pleased with the stand. If it's not subjected to abuse, we expect it to last as long as the older stand.
