Owned this watch for a couple of months now. Really simple elegant design that wears well, but with the black band has a little more sport to it. This Hamilton has a 38mm case diameter which is at the smallest end of the Khaki's (40 and 42mm) cases for men, but works well for people with smaller wrist or who simply don't like big cases. The case back is screw down and has an observation window to show off the 25 jewels Swiss movement (ETA2824) and the rotor. My only complaint is that the highly polished ring around the dial tends to scratch pretty easily. Nothing you can't buff out with a cape cod cloth but kind of annoying for some. Other than that it is solid watch that it truly a classic.

I can't say enough about the watch I purchased. I've searched over ten years to find this watch at a reasonable price and when I did, I jumped at the opportunity. It has a subtle elegance and rugged charm, that is very understated by it's appearance. The "See Through" case back and "Automatic" movement, are not common features on a watch in this particular price range. The quality is second to none and let's not get started on the finer details, you don't have a lifetime to waste on reading everything I have to say. The Hamilton Khaki, particularly in this style, is an absolute classic. I've owned dozens of watches in varying calibers, none which come close to this one.

I say I love it, and yes now I do. I bought this watch (NEW) through Amazon.com in February or March 2012. Very handsome timepiece, but the leather band was somewhat stiff which didn't surprise me for new leather. The watch kept pretty good time but gained a few seconds every week. I kept a weekly record of the timekeeping and after a year (March 2013) I took the watch to a local Certified Watch Maker. He "timed" the watch and I came home happy. For a few months it kept pretty good time; losing about three seconds a week. I call that pretty dern good for an automatic timepiece that is not a chronometer.

Late in the summer it stopped after having been on the night stand over night. So I started giving it a little winding each morning just to keep things going. After a week or so of that it started getting rough and "scratchy" while winding so I took it to my local Certified Watch Maker. He overhauled the watch; cleaned, adjusted, lubricated, and timed it, resealed and pressure tested the watch. He said he thought the watch might be about eight years old.

Parts replaced because of damage were Mainspring, all gaskets, two auto reversing wheels, auto reduction wheel, third wheel, and winding pinion, due to lack of proper lubrication.

Today I called Hamilton and asked when the watch was created. I explained the situation, where I bought it and that I had no grief with Hamilton, but I would like to know when it was created, because it seems like it had been someplace for a very long time without lubrication or other care.

At their request I sent photographs of the label on the box, and front and back photographs of the watch itself. They quickly came back with information that THIS MODEL WAS CREATED IN 2004.

I purchased the Hamilton Khaki King Watch about a week ago and have worn no other watch since. The phrase that comes to mind is 'cleanly elegant.' If you like the face of this watch in the pictures you will not be disappointed when you see it in person. I particularly like how the second-hand movement is fluid compared to the jerking movements on many other watches. The observation window in the back is a nice touch, I'm still trying to figure out how I can see it without taking the watch off. I have small wrists so larger watches are uncomfortable and look kind of funny on me. This watch is a bit on the small side, but fits and looks great on my wrist. If you have a larger sized wrist you may want to go with something bigger than 38mm. The band is a stiffer leather than other leather bands I have come across (so far this is neither good nor bad, just an observation). I have not noticed the watch either gaining or losing time in the past week. I also have not experienced the scratching that some other reviewers have noted. I will update my review if I notice either of these occurring in the future. I placed my order on a Friday night and received delivery the following Tuesday.

I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this watch to anyone considering it.

I never write reviews, never. In my decade+ history with Amazon I've written one, maybe two reviews and they've only been for products that I am really, really impressed with. Which is why am am writing this review.

This is an excellent watch. A quintessential daily wearer with understated, yet sophisticated and handsome looks. The 38mm case is perfect. You don't end up looking like a bafoon with some 48mm monstrosity on your wrist.

The fit, function and finish is flawless. Beautiful, well-crafted and sturdy stainless steel case, perfectly executed minute and hour hands and perfect red-tipped sweep second.

If I had to change one thing I'd chose the crown. If it was a little shorter / less thick it would be 100%. As it stands though, it's not a big deal at all. Just an observation.

You will not be disappointed, truly. Go for it.
