I am not new to the world of "great" watches. I have owned or own a few that are considered "World Class"; Rolex, Breitling etc. I also inherited my father's 1928 Hamilton Oval Solid Gold, his graduation present from High School. This, new Hamilton American Classic, is a marvelously close version of the older watch, but with the added inclusion of a Swiss automatic movement and in the more practical Stainless Steel case. It is a truly beautiful, functional watch which possesses classic design and ease of setting. The only problem which one may find with this watch is locating one for sale. If you do some shopping and can find a seller, buy this watch...you will not be disappointed. GJ

Classic styling, simple, refined. This is one of my favorite watches. It is a simple watch with a classic look and fit. Very tasteful and not gaudy.

This watch is made with a movement that come in pieces two to three times as expensive. It is a value for that alone, but the minimalist styling is what sets this piece apart from others. The markers, hands, and date are proportional in a way that provides balance to the overal aesthetic of the piece. The lack of a seconds hand may throw folks off, but I think that it eliminates a distraction that would detract from its understated beauty. The watch is thin, so a 42mm will wear much larger than expected. The minimalist design also contributes to the watch feeling a bit larger than its measurements infer.

I bought this watch for my father who does not like expensive watches but does not like cheap ones either. I was looking for something more old-fashioned/traditional and not too bulky, possibly with American history and Swiss quality. This watch is very slim, wears rather big (it is 42mm but since the bezel is very thing, the dial looks and feels more like of a 44-46 mm watch, so you can certainly consider the smaller version of same (my father liked the size though as it is easy to read). The movement/mechanism inside is ETA2892 which is proclaimed to be the best generic movement on the market and certainly is very accurate (out of the box, less than 1 second a day deviation).
The dial (silver) looks good on the contrast with the strap. If you are on the market for a dress mechanical watch under $1000, this one is certainly a must see. I miss the second hand a bit but calm myself that I got a better mechanism instead, so it is a wash.

Classic piece of Mad-Men-era Americana, now made in Switzerland. Thin, elegant, and keeps time well. Very pleased with this watch. Now if only I could sip a Martini in my cubicle...

My husband wanted a dress watch to add to his newly started watch collection which includes a Datejust. It is very elegant and settle which a dress watch should be. It arrived quickly and was packaged well. This watch was a great gift for the man who has higher than usual standards.

I love the design and the movement is supposed to be a good one, but it is 20 minutes slow every 3 days. I hope it will stabilize some, I have it on a winder. I checked to see if it is magnetized, and it is not, however I am thinking I should magnetize it:( maybe it will speed up.
