SMELL OF THE 70'S,
By Duane (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The sense of smell is a powerful thing. For instance, everytime I hear Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds "Don't Pull Your Love{out}I smell my first grade class room and can see a sunny play ground outside of its window. This particular cut is reason enough to purchase this CD. Takes on The Four Tops "Ain't No Woman" and a medley of Simon & Garfunkle's / James Taylor "Bridge Over Trouble Water" / "You've Got A Friend" is again well worth the listen! Another cut, "Annabella" should have been at least a top twenty record for the group. Commercially, this CD is NOT a GREATEST HITS for the average fan, but if you are a fan of this groups top 40 hits, after listening to this CD you will wonder why these guys were not a more successful household name. What's extremely unfortunate is the fact that the album titled FALLIN IN LOVE { which includes the titles hit record and the minor WINNERS & LOSERS } has not been released in a CD format. That lp. includes a song titled "BAR ROOM BLUES" which could be a number one pop or country record today. That album also included a large rose on its inner record jacket cover that gave off a scented aeroma of spring. The Greatest Hits, however is a good start...You too may also smell first grade, so Go ahead and sing along.

Two of my favorite seventies songs aren't here,

It was really disappointing that this Hamilton,Joe Frank & Reynolds Greatest Hits Collection didn't include two of my favorite songs from the seventies. How could they call it Greatest Hits when a number one song called Fallin in Love and a top twenty song called Winners and Losers weren't considered for this album?Great lyrics, sweet songs, harmonious voices.Thats what they were,an unforgettable group of the seventies.Missing these songs was an unfortunate mistake.

I used to own the LP titled H,JF,&R. It was a favorite until it warped. I was glad to find this. Missed the cut Nora, though. 'Winners and Losers' and 'Fallin in love' was with Hamilton,Joe Frank, and Dennison on Playboy Records. The OriginalBand, I thought, was on Dunhill. You may remember Tom Reynolds as an accomplished musician who played drums, guitar, flute, keyboards, vibes, and steel drums, and backup vocals. Tom is still around and owns 'Tropical Hammer of Florida' where he still crafts steel drums. He plays them in a jazz and latin-carribean ensemble. Check his site out. The boy can play !!!

How can they call this a greatest hits album when they didn't include "Winners and Losers" and "Falling in Love." Two of their biggest hits. The album "Falling in Love" has more of their hits on it then this peice of junk. To bad Amazon doesn't carry it.

Here's where to find "Fallin in Love",

When I was about 13 (way, way back in the last millennium!) I had a horrible, all-consuming crush on a gorgeous guy 2 years my senior. When Fallin' in Love was played as the "slow skate" song at the local skating rink, He (with a capital H!) took my hand and we skated and I thought I would die on the spot! Where is he now? I have absolutely no idea, but I still love that wonderful song! You can find it by going to ktel.com and creating a customized CD. You'll probably find a zillion other singles to put on a CD that have that strange transporting power back to your Important Moments as well! Enjoy!

Fallin' In Love and Winners And Losers,
By
This review is from: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm going to purchase this CD because of the many great fan reviews. Don't Pull Your Love was a great tune and is a little tough to find on CD. I look forward to any possible gems that might be tucked inside this disc. Also, I would hope that all the banter on these reviews would wake up who's ever got access to the Playboy master recordings and please consider us hopeful fans and re-release them! Who could pull it off? Mike Curb? Razor & Tie? Bill Buster? Hughie himself? Ha! Sometimes unearthing these old albums to CD isn't as easy as the casual fan would hope. The song Fallin' In Love does appear on Rhino's Have A Nice Day Vol 15. I have not seen Winners And Losers show up on any CD. The Fallin' In Love LP I have is still in pretty good playable shape, despite the worn jacket. Great cover artwork. Shows the three of them standing there in their white tuxes in a shroud of scarlet rose and lush deep purple; so awesomely retro and reminiscent of the time!(1975). I'll enjoy! - Mike

This CD did not have one of their greatest hits, "Falling In Love".That song can be found on Rhino's "Billboard Top Hits 1975". Get this CD & Rhino's then you'll have their two greatest hits!!! Both together make it a five star collection.

Peacful, Easy Feelings!,
This review is from: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This has got be one of the greatest bargains on the internet!Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds were one of the best vocal groups of the 70's, and with the passing of lead singer Dan Hamilton, we lost one of the most overlooked bands in history. This is a great collection, however, and at a budget price to boot. This collection, sadly, is the only release by the band that is still being sold. I hope someday "Hallway Symphony", the album, will be reissued. In the meantime, this is a fine sampler. With Dan's strong voice, sounding every bit like a cross between BJ Thomas and Gary Puckett, and the strong material, this is a thoroughly entertaining album to listen to.

Got to meet and listen to the guys when they played in L.A. a few years ago, they were great! Sorry to here about the passing of Danny. This is one CD I will never tire of. Ever since hearing "Don't Pull Your Love" in 1971 I've been a fan. Joe Frank if you read this just wanna say hi.

How sweet it is,
This review is from: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Never has a group impacted me the way these guys have. I first saw them at Disneyland when I was 5. My folks bought the album(with them in the grassy meadow). After all these years and many moves across the country. I still have the album-scratched and well played. I've been desperate to find a CD of the original album I even written to CBS records (not there anymore). I'm so excited to finally find most of the beloved songs. Thank you for carrying this and if you can ever get copies of the album with "Nora" "It's a long road(together we can) let me know. I'll be your first customer.
