Portable Music Stand with a Convenient Case,
By

This review is from: Hamilton KB90 Traveler II Portable Music Stand (Electronics)
I bought this stand because it came with a case. That fact that it came with a music stand was just a bonus! I used to use one of those little portable fold-up music stands because I could easily carry it at the same time as my trumpet and my music, etc., when I went to band. The tray wasn't very deep, and my music was always falling off. But, I had refused to get a "big music stand" like everyone else because it would require making 2 trips to carry all my stuff when I went to practice or a performance. Then I discovered this portable stand, and it is wonderful. The case can be carried by the handle or the shoulder strap. It is very sturdy for a portable music stand. The tray is deep enough to hold my music without falling off. This is exactly what I need. Hamilton KB90 Traveler II Portable Music Stand

I was excited and optimistic to buy this music stand because it was solid, strong, and fit into a carrying bag. I read all the reviews, and I remember one review that said something about it breaking, but thought this seemed harmless enough because it supposedly broke while trying to get it into or out of the bag. I had a different problem. I took it out of the box, and carefully unfolded it, and with minimal effort, the leg support snapped. I was extremely disappointed. I still haven't returned it because I like the rest of the features and it is a very solid music stand. I actually taped the bottom so I can still use it, but this only works because I keep it in my house and I don't fold it to take it anywhere. What a bummer.

I needed a music stand to take to and from practise and this one fits the bill. The carrying case makes it easy to transport and the stand itself is sturdy and quick to assemble and disassemble. This is the perfect stand for my needs.

This stand works well in my home practice space, and is easy to take to gigs. I like all the various options for making adjustments, and it holds a lot of music. As a horn player and a jazz vocalist, I have some pretty heavy books I put on a stand, and this works great. Did I mention the shoulder strap on the case? Now I'm down to one trip to bring everything in!

I am a bagpiper, and I needed a good solid music stand to practice my music, both inside and outside. This stand is quality construction, easy to set up and take down. It adjusts up tall enough to accommodate me comfortably, as I have to stand up to play. The price was reasonable, I checked a number of sites before I purchased this one from Amazon. I would recommend the Hamilton products, American made and built to last.

Great Stand, Weak Knobs,

This is a very sturdy stand with one design flaw: the plastic knob used to adjust the height can be easily broken when transported in the soft carrying case. Rather than returning it after my knob broke off, I took the stand to my local hardware store and purchased a sturdy clamp. Now the stand is ready for the road.

Stand will work well in home use and for away concerts. It is not heavy and could be bent or damaged with rough handling, but should hold up well with a little care when setting up. Much nicer than the light weight folding stands. The bag was a surprise as the zipper is at the bottom of the bag; it's okay but my horn swab can't ride there because it's long enough that it needed to poke out of the top. The bag will accommodate a fair amount of music.

Caution: Not the Best,

I happened to purchase two different music stands at once, so comparing was easy. There was an obvious lack of quality and design to the Hamilton. First, the main pole did not stand straight up, giving the stand (and your music) a slight tilt. Second, there was a problem in extending the 3 legs. As I continued to put pressure on the 3 legs to open them, they wouldn't budge past a certain point, and the metal pole began to bend out of shape. I had to use my hand to push the star-shaped connection on the pole completely down and again later, to lift it back up to fold up the legs. It shouldn't be that difficult to manipulate the legs. Third, there are 2 knobs to adjust the tilt of the music stand shelf instead of one. You have to walk around behind the stand to make adjustments. Fourth, the music stand lip does not have a blunt edge. The metal is bent back to give a rounded edge. This edge is too thick for Manhasset 1100 Accessory Shelf if that is an important accessory for you. Fourth, the stand was difficult to fit into the travel bag.In contrast, I was VERY PLEASED to assemble the On-Stage SM7211 Professional Folding Orchestral Music Stand, Black. It worked smoothly and effortlessly when folding the 3 legs up or down. The stand is straight and sturdy, not top-heavy, and the music stand lip has a blunt edge for an accessory shelf. It fit better into the Hamilton bag than the Hamilton stand did. And all you have to do to adjust the tilt of the music stand shelf, is to reach under and turn one knob. Set up and fold up took me seconds with the On-Stage stand v. sitting on the floor and wrangling for minutes with the Hamilton. Wouldn't it be nice if someone sold a quality, portable music stand with shelf and carrying bag in one great package deal?
