3.0 out of 5 stars Okay Coffeepot
Coffeepot is reasonably priced, makes good coffee. Better than the last 3 B&D ones I bought, and returned. Would be nice to have automatic shut-off.

This month I needed to replace a budget Mr. Coffee machine with an equally low budget machine. I searched hill and dale at various stores, saw this item at the local bargain basement, and snapped it up immediately. Having used it several times, I can say that I'm very pleased with my purchase. For one, I liked how well designed the hot plate was. With the previous machine, it seemed all too easy for a really careless person to not have the carafe seated carefully. With this machine, the carafe almost seems to click into place no matter how hasty anyone is with it. This is a great a boon for households that have clumsy members who don't take the time to properly seat carafes.

A second thing that I liked about the machine is that it has a "Pause and Serve" feature, another great thing to have when said aforementioned clumsy household member likes to thoughtlessly yank the carafe out before the coffee cycle has completed, causing coffee to spill all over the counter. As soon as the carafe is lifted off the hot plate, the machine stops brewing, making for a very pleasant, spill free morning and not one filled with coffee-soaked sponges, flared tempers and lots of angry dish throwing.

As for the actual brewing itself, this machine does an excellent job of serving up to 12 cups of coffee in a reasonable amount of time. So if you're looking for a lowcost machine without any of the high tech frills of a more expensive one, you can't go wrong with this model. Just a warning, though, before you buy this machine-- unlike a few other budget models, it's not usable out of the box. So don't forget to buy either a permanent filter along with this product or a package of paper ones.

Proctor Silex does it again with this basic simple and simply excellent coffemaker, for me anyway. Nothing fancy here just a good cup of coffee as the end result.

I got this at a department store to avoid shipping. I looked at the selections, and they just mesmerized me. I mean, all I want is a coffee maker. I don't want something that you have to set the timer to on off, program weekday weekend, while listening to Phil Collins plays In-a-godda-da-vida. I just want to brew a decent cup of coffee. I like this. If you want to turn it on, you turn the switch on. If you want to turn it off, you turn the switch off. Straight, simple, old school.

We purchased this coffee maker as a replacement for our 19-year-old Proctor-Silex coffee maker which was still going strong. The carafe finally broke and we decided to replace the entire unit. Proctor-Silex delivers again! The pause-and-serve feature is great, the pot does not drip at all, and best of all, there is no annoying "safety feature" that turns the pot off after 2 hours. We have the pot hooked into a standard light timer so that the coffee maker turns on in the morning and stays on until late afternoon - no reason to mess with the unreliable timers built in to most coffee makers.

The brewed coffee is fantastic. The unit is virtually silent until the very end of the brew process when the last few drops of water are brewed.

Go ahead and buy this coffee maker. 5-stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great maker but watch the lid, October 17, 2010

My only negative remark on this item is that the plastic lid on the carafe is evidently not removable for washing. Once removed the tiny plastic tips which the lid pivots on break, and there's no way to re-attach it to the pot. That said, the maker itself is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars I miss this one!, October 12, 2011
This review is from: Hamilton-Proctor 43501Y 12 Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Just purchased a black mr. coffee coffeemaker because, well, it was black, and it's hard to keep a white one clean when it lives right next to your stove top due to countertop constraints. I wish I hadn't. I really wish I hadn't.

Sure, occasionally I had a leak on the counter to clean up, but I can't be sure I didn't slide it too fast, sending water sloshing out of the resevoir or poured wrong. And the corners of the resevoir were hard to clean. But the lever pause n serve feature works infinitely better than those models with a button instead of a lever. The only reason I changed it was because of color, and I am, right now, searching for a black version of this to purchase.

This unit was purchased as a water heater for surgical procedures and wound care in my ambulance that serves as a mobile veterinary practice treating large & small animals in Maine. Great compact unit that is sturdy and very efficient. Well worth the price.

Very simple design (no timer functions or other fancy stuff). Works fine (no leaking) and makes a good pot of coffee. The only downside is that you can't really re-heat cooled-down coffee with it. Requires a bit of cleaning but if you are getting a coffee maker you should at least expect that much. It's a good buy for its price, especially if you just want a simple coffeemaker that works.
