    I purchased this watch for myself for Christmas. I have eyed it for a very long time but never have made the leap.

    I started getting into the hobby of watches and wanted to start my collection. As they say, the only piece of jewelery a man needs to wear is a great time piece. I started out with a Tissot PRC 200. It gets a lot of good reviews and the owners really love it. I decided to make a jump on that watch and was pretty satisfied with it. I get a lot of great compliments on that watch, but after having to replace the first one and now sending the second one in for repair, i decided to relegate it to normal duty and purchase this watch for more formal and night on the town wear.

    I have not gotten one compliment from this watch yet, but I think that is a positive. This watch is classy and understated. it doesn't try to say as much as my Tissot. I guess that is why not a lot of people notice it, and not a lot of people are watch enthusiasts so they wouldn't know what this watch represents, anyway.

    I absolutely love this watch. It is so very nice and I love the automatic movement. This watch oozes quality and at a very affordable price. I will hopefully hold on to this watch for a very long time.

    Highly recommended!

    I have a lot of black watches and needed a watch to go with brown shoes/belt. So after searching the net I discovered Hamilton brand and this watch. It is maybe a little more formal than casual but great for any occasion and it is definitely beautiful and timeless. I like the styling of it most of all Hamilton watches. My only regret is that it is only 40 mm and not bigger. In fact I almost returned it because of the size but then I decided that huge watches is just a fad but this watch will always look great and classy/classic. And because of the white/silver dial it actually looks bigger. And my wrist is only 7.25 inch. And the quality seems to be very good so I expect to enjoy it for a long time. So I got myself 42mm Hamilton H38511553 Jazzmaster Thinline, which is also beautiful watch but more casual and less expensive quartz model, and wear this one for more special occasions. This is my most expensive watch so far and it is my favorite. The delivery was amazing - I got it the very next day even though I ordered late in the afternoon. So overall I am happy with the purchase and would recommend this watch and Hamilton brand in general. Too bad they don't make their leather bands in Italy anymore.

    I decided I wouldn't pull the trigger on a new watch unless I found exactly what I was looking for. I had a number of criteria that were important to me:

    1. a dress watch (with a leather strap);
    2. a clean, symmetrical, easily legible face (the pictures here don't do this watch justice, search the internet for better pics);
    3. an automatic Swiss/German movement;
    4. a case with a diameter of no more than 40 mm (not a fan of oversize watches);
    5. a case no thicker than 8 mm (was getting annoyed by my other watch- a diver- catching on my shirt sleeve at work);
    6. at least 5 Bar (165 ft.) pressure/water resistance (don't want to have to coddle a watch);
    7. a second hand (otherwise, what's the use of an automatic movement? Hamilton makes a similar watch with a more respected movement, however it lacks a second hand);
    8. a date display;
    9. a skeleton back (yes, I know it's silly, but I just like it);
    10. luminescent hands (granted, it's pretty weak, especially if it's sitting under a shirt sleeve all day. I would say there's very good contrast on the face, but in total darkness, the lume isn't much help);
    11. made by a company that's likely to be in business in 20 years (Hamilton is owned by the Swatch Group); and
    12. not overly pretentious and costs less than $1,000 (which are somewhat related).

    This obviously fits the bill and I couldn't be happier with it. I note that it's easy to dress this watch up or down with diferent watch bands.

    Nice watch. Conservative. Keeps time well. Watch band is still a bit stiff so that fit is not yet comfortable. I purchased as a conservative dress watch and it fills that role.

    I purchased this watch because i have another 40 year old Hamilton that i love but is gold and not very tough. The new watch is really beautiful on the wrist with rugged yet classical design. The first problem i had with it was that, although it is supposed to be automatic, and although i wear it every day, it must be wound daily because the self-wind is not very efficient. You know the watch is running down when you are 10 minutes late for an appointment because the watch is running slow. About 3 months after i purchased the watch, i started to notice a grinding sound while winding. Sent the watch back to Swatch Canada (Hamilton is a Swatch company). They fixed it in about 2 weeks back and sent it back but i did not receive it. After another month of emails they finally agreed to replace the watch. But they refused to replace the deployment (butterfly clasp) that i had put on even though their own photograph of my watch showed the clasp and the sales receipt had the clasp on it. They filed a loss claim with FEDEX but will not reimburse me or replace the clasp. Interestingly enough, I had been looking at buying a new Omega (also a Swatch product). Why would i want to do that now? UPDATE Swatch Canada has since replaced the deployant.
