5.0 out of 5 stars HEAVY AND TRULY RIPPING METAL!
Some may think I'm silly for giving this song five stars, but I have my reasons: I've never heard anyone do such a remarkable impression of what it would sound like if Cookie Monster were in the music-making business, and I have to applaud Chris Barnes for being able to growl so low! I always thought Max from Sepultura was a growler - was I wrong! And I have to applaud...

3.0 out of 5 stars Chris Barnes at his worst
As the title of my review subtely blames Chris Barnes as the cause of me giving this cd 3 stars, I would like the chance to say this cd would've been great if they had've had Corpsegrinder. The vocals are terrible here. Chris sounds like he's mumbling. Although Hammer Smashed Face sounds 3x as good when Corpsegrinder does the vocals (see DVD), it's still one of Cannibal...

5.0 out of 5 stars HEAVY AND TRULY RIPPING METAL!, February 21, 2000

Some may think I'm silly for giving this song five stars, but I have my reasons: I've never heard anyone do such a remarkable impression of what it would sound like if Cookie Monster were in the music-making business, and I have to applaud Chris Barnes for being able to growl so low! I always thought Max from Sepultura was a growler - was I wrong! And I have to applaud the band for the powerful, fast, crunching rhythms. If you are a true metal fan as well as musician, you will like this song. I also have to give it another star because it doesn't screw the world up, as a fellow reviewer said, as does other music that promotes murder, drugs and gangs. Anyone who can't appreciate this band's musicianship and ability to create such diverse rhythms, such as a non-musician or anti-metal type, has no business reviewing this song, or treading the grounds of metal music. Honestly you have to be a musician as well as metal fan to understand why I've rated this song so well. Keep up the good work Cannibal Corpse! Long live metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Words don't do justice, August 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hammer Smashed Face (Audio CD)
Every once in far too long, the cosmos is blessed by the introduction of a group of musicians so Earthshatteringly brilliant, that all the angels in Heaven lay down their harps, to marvel that even god could create something so beautiful. This CD captures the essence of everything that is right. Purer than a mountain spring, and more beautiful than the morning dew on the petals of a crimson rose.
This band has the ability to convey the most complicated and nameless of emotions. From the smallest child to the pope himself, everyone can relate to these eloquent lyrics. The complex melodies and harmonies are matched only by Cradle of Filth. This is Cannibal Corpse at their finest hour. If I could only have one CD, it would be this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Once you get passed the vocals, it's awesome, October 2, 2005

The first time I heard Cannibal Corpse, I immediately dismissed the band 'cause of the horrible vocals. I kept listening, mostly for comedic value, and it slowly grew on me. The guitar as we can all mostly agree on is fantastic, and the vocals are just something you gotta get used to. All three songs on this EP are awesome pieces of art. Just listen with an open mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars For true Death Metal fans only, January 4, 2000

Pivitol release partly marking the beginning of Death Metal as a genre. Unsurpassed brutality, speed and aggression.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant original, awesome covers, June 20, 1998

Hammer Smashed Face. Is there really anything else to say? An incredible, unrelenting death metal classic that shines on all fronts, and doesn't rely on the crutch of necrophilia that so many of their songs, especially on Tomb of the Mutilated, have leaned on. C Corpse's cover of Possessed's the Exorcist is well executed, tight, and heavy, and their version of the Black Sabbath classic Zero the Hero is even heavier with Chris Barnes' ultra heavy, completely un-understandable singing and the guitar mastery of Jack Owen. Worth the money, if you want to own a classic song, but don't want to pay $15 for a whole bunch of necrophilia crap.

5.0 out of 5 stars F*CKING SICK! BRINGS A SMILE TO MY FACE!, December 9, 2004
This review is from: Hammer Smashed Face (Audio CD)
Only three songs here but it is definately worth the money!
The cover of black sabbath's "Zero the Hero" is just f**king sick! It takes a classic 80's metal song from sabbath and redifines it with some of the sickest vocals I have ever heard!
GOD I LOVE THAT COVER,HEARING THAT COVER JUST REMINDS ME OF WHY I LOVE THIS BAND IN THE FIRST PLACE AND FILLS ME WITH JOY! The other cover of possessed's "the excorsit" surpasses the original in every way! The guitars are more clear and once again Chris Barne's sick gutteral vocal performance blew me away! His voice sounds better here than on "tomb of the mutilated"! And than lest we forget one of the most violent and sickest death metal songs of all time "hammer smashed face"! This is defanatly worth buying even if you already have tomb of the mutilated, just for those two cover songs! If you can i recomend buying the japeneese import of tomp of the mutilated with this ep on it!

I went and saw Cannibal Corpse at the Sounds of the Underground tour. When Fisher told everyone to 'start slamming', hammer smashed face kicked in and I got punched three times. It was wayyyyy worth it. Hammer smashed face is freakin awesome

5.0 out of 5 stars THEY WILL FOREVER ROCK!, March 23, 2006
This review is from: Hammer Smashed Face (Audio CD)
This is for that one dude who gave this a 1 star rating...how can u say this isnt music? This rocks way harder then what you listen to(probally like cold play and green day)...so just leave the people who like this music alone. If you dont like it then dont review cause Cannibal Corpse deserves respect for all they've did for death metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Family Entertainment, October 2, 2001
This review is from: Hammer Smashed Face (Audio CD)
Yet again Cannibal Corpse proove to everyone that there's not a band in the world that can come close to them in terms of pure genius. 'Hammer Smashed Face ' puts other pieces of music which, over the years, also have been highly acclaimed (e.g Beethoven's 5th Symphony) to shame. Absolutly brilliant, a song for the whole family, 5 stars.
