I am always hesitant to invest in a new author so I was thrilled to discover that Kathleen Hering's Hammered, Nailed and Screwed, the first of the author's Designer Mysteries, is a seriously funny book very cleverly written. I'm looking forward to book number two.

This is a clever, interesting and at times funny book. First time book author Hering takes you on an journey with the heroine, Laura Howard as she tries to understand her husband's death and all the events that occur after his demise. It's not a simple trip but with the help of friends and a detective the real story unfolds. I especially enjoyed the decorating comments at the end of each chapter. The author's tongue in cheek comments from her characters doesn't let this mystery take itself too seriously.

Thoroughly enjoyable! The title had me hooked, the plot was simple but enough to maintain interest. I looked forward to seeing the hints on decorating at the end of each chapter.

This was a great read!

Laura Howard is a widow with a huge amount of cash because her husband Todd purchased numerous insurance policies while he was on "business" trips for the firm he worked for. Unfortunately, Todd was a womanizer and he was killed while in Mexico with his latest paramour. Or was he? Laura is starting to receive phone calls from her deceased husband and it appears that someone is trying to kill her.

Laura Howard has become partners with Russ Graham and his aunt Esther Graham, they have a great partnership, Russ handles all the construction, Esther manages the office and Laura is the decorater for the new homes and renovations that the company does.

With the help of the detective assigned to the case and Russ, Laura works to discover if Todd is still alive and why someone is trying to kill her.

This was a very quick read but it didn't drag on with a lot of useless information, I really enjoyed this and will be reading more by this author.

A much different kind of humor than I'm used to, however, I enjoyed it. Nice, light reading. Not heavy and thought provoking.

I read a lot of these "cozy mysteries" and I don't expect much but I like comprehensibility. The plot was all over the place and characters popped in and out of nowhere. Every man was inexplicably in love with the main character - hit on by a doctor while being treated in an emergency room - are you kidding me? I encourage the author to try again but with some input from and editor or outside source.

Enjoyable reading. Dialogues are full of humour. There's mystery and a touch of romance too. didn't mind tips about decorations! A nice blend, all in one novel.

This is the perfect book for a little escape time. Sure, the characters could have been a little less predictable. There are a few twists that keep you guessing and some may find those predictable as well. But, after a long day at work this was a great book for a relaxing evening
