5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best runner sled ever made
This sled is amazing. You do however need the rear snow skis and tether for most conditions. I am 6'4" tall 230 lbs and the sled has held up fine after two winters, can be very fast so helmet is a must in most situations.

For those that haven't dumped $500-$700 on skis before the cost can be an issue. My suggestion is to look out for mid-end winter sales...

For those that haven't dumped $500-$700 on skis before the cost can be an issue. My suggestion is to look out for mid-end winter sales. EMS (eastern mountain sports) drops prices every year at the end of January to $200, REI drops prices in Feb to close to $200. Buy it then and you will be the envy of the slope next season.

Likely to be the last sled you will ever buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sledding for the 21st century, February 8, 2008
Remember the first time that you tried a flexible flyer when you were a kid a discovered how much fun it could be to ride a sled that you could actually steer? While this is even better than that! These things fly, literaly. And have the comfy ride of your Dads old cadillac. But purchase the option powder skis if you plan on taking it off the packed or groomed trails, because it doesn't float well on loose snow with the factory installed skis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crowd pleaser, January 9, 2008
I recently purchased the Hammerhead at Amazon after reviewing the product for a year. My son is 6 years old and drives the sled like a formula 1 driver on the sled runs of Southern Norway. If anyone is considering buying one. Do it.. It will be money well spent.

My son broke one of the ski's. I emailed Cherrymax on Sunday and the new bullet proof ski's arrived on Wednesday. Take into consideration that we don't live in the USA and international shipping is a nightmare, Cherrymax truely stands behind their product. I will be buying another sled next trip to the USA and recommend anyone considering this product to get one quickly.

I have driven many type of sleds here in Norway and nothing compares to the ride, stability and speed i've experienced on the Hammerhead. I would warn you against just buying 1. I wish i had brought 2, so we don't have to take turns.

I received one last year as a gift. It is unbelievable! You will never think of sledding the same again. I bought one for a friend this year. Great product!

Got this sled for my 12 yr old son for Christmas. It looks well-designed and built, however on his first day using it one of the rear runners came off at some point and was lost in the snow for two days. We later found that the company sells clamps to hold the runners on, for extra $ of course, but these should be included as part of the original purchase (you could use your own heavy duty cable ties for this too, available at most hardware stores). On the 2nd day of use, the front ski actually broke at the pivot. My son is only 90 lbs, and he was only using it on relatively short gentle hills - it should not have broke under those conditions. We managed to rig the broken ski back on temporarily to give the sled another try on a bigger hill, but basically found that using the included runners, it is a very slow sled in powder or packed powder, even on a fairly steep, long hill (the last hill we tried is the local sledding favorite and is actually referred to as "suicide hill" due to a couple of sledding deaths over the years). My guess is that you need the optional rear skis (more $ of course) for even packed powder, definitely for fresh powder. The runners must work only on hard pack or icy conditions, but we never had a chance to try that. Again, I think the powder skis should be included in original price, not an extra $50-75. We returned ours for full refund to Amazon after all this (no problem with Amazon). So be prepared to purchase the clamps, and also rear skis if you expect to use on any kind of powder. I noticed that the company also sells replacement front skis, so breaks must happen occasionally.

The sled is well made and, even though I haven't used it as yet, it probably will work nicely. However, There are two different types of runners being offered and I had to order separately the powder snow runners that I wanted. Buyers should be aware that there are two types of runners for the same sled and when considering a purchase, look at both options before purchasing...Now,what are my chances of snow now (April)!! Wait till next year...
