Strong strap, good heavy hardware. If you use it (or anything else) on pine trees, you'll have to clean it up.

Regarding another reviewer's comment: no, you're not stuck with too long or too short a tail. Here's what to do.

Strong strap, good heavy hardware. If you use it (or anything else) on pine trees, you'll have to clean it up.

Regarding another reviewer's comment: no, you're not stuck with too long or too short a tail. Here's what to do.

Begin by holding the loop on the tree and wind around the tree until you get to the ring end.

Stop at the "too long" setting, pass the ring through the loop, and continue around the tree IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. At some point you'll have the length you need - however it will probably be pointing in a wrong direction. Note where it's pointing!

Now undo it all and begin again, but this time start the loop end at a point on the tree where, after you've wrapped it all, the ring end will point in your desired direction (toward the hammock).

If you think you'll use the same tree again, mark the starting point with a small notch on the tree and hanging the hammock will be a snap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great product BUT!, August 1, 2010

This is only my second review, but I had to write as this product is great, BUT has a fatal flaw. Replace the S hooks immediately (before hammock use) with carabiners. If two people are in the hammock and one gets up to leave then the S hook can easily pop out of the ring and the hammock falls to the ground. That happened to me when my husband got up and I hit the ground hard. NO fun and easily fixed with closed carabiners. The product is great otherwise, but you really have to figure out how to set it up -- sort of a geometry problem, but doable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked exactly as I needed, December 6, 2008

I have the hammock, and I have two trees that are just barely sufficiently far apart for the hammock. After a full season of use (I took them down after we had a few weeks of snow), things are still working well. They help up fine with no serious signs of wear on either the straps, or the walnut trees. (did I mention that I have been lounging under a whole bunch of walnuts?)

The most difficult part is to figure out:

1. How high to place the straps so that the hammock will hang as you desire.

2. Precisely how to initially position the strap around the tree so that it will be the perfect length. The strap works by wrapping around the tree.

You will probably lose 15 minutes figuring out exactly how you need to position the straps (that is how long I took anyway). It then did just fine with a whole lot of abuse, including the neighbor kids that like to really swing on the hammock....

These are great straps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works under the deck, May 3, 2010

I live in a townhouse and we definitely do not have two trees far enough apart. We have a 2nd story deck, so we wrapped these straps around the posts that hold up the deck. Even though the posts are square, which I was worried about, these straps are perfect. I was worried that the strap would rub on the corners of the post, but they don't move at all. I had to wrap it around the posts several times because the straps are quite long, but once I was all set it, it was perfect. The instructions are pretty much useless though (a diagram would have been helpful), just look at the picture and read some other reviewers on this site and you should be fine. I would definitely buy these again.

These straps appear to cause very little if any stress for the trees. I recommend them.

A good product for hanging a hammock or anything else between two trees. I didn't think the directions were very clear, and it took some trial and error to get the straps adjusted so that the D-ring faced the proper direction, but once installed, the straps held the weight. I also found this item useful for hanging a clothesline between two trees, and I imagine there would be other uses.

3.0 out of 5 stars could be better, August 6, 2010

Pro:
This is truly a heavy duty strap. I have no worries about its strength. It could probably pull a car. The metal is solid too.

Cons:
It is long and is a pain in the but to wrap around a tree. depending on the size of the tree.
You cant adjust it or make changes to perfect its length and placement around a tree. You can get it to work but it will take some time and trial and error. On one thick tree i couldn't get it where i wanted. But this is life.

Overall it is a solid hardcore product.
The hammock ain't going no where.

simple product, but works great. I am not a tiny guy, and these straps take on the task of keeping me up in the air on the hammock between two trees! I took the advice of someone else who rated the product and used strong clasp hooks bought from hardware store instead of the "S" hooks provided. Make sure to do that for good safety.

I received this to go with a Pawleys Island Hammock for my girlfriend's birthday this week-end. The Straps are of high quality as is the hardware...at least what I received. The Two (2) included "S" hooks were not included. This is irritating to be sure. The packaging is a clear blister pack so its not as if you couldn't see this before you stuck it in the box to ship. I am sure that Amazon will make this right but it does mean I will have to go buy a couple of "S" hooks from the store in order to get this up for the birthday.

The strap is very sturdy and secure and appears safe for my trees. Since my trees have a pretty big trunk and are pretty close together, I had to fuss to get them adjusted right. Not quite enough to go around the trunk one more time, but too much strap left dangling. But now it's good. Not many directions included but I figured it out.
