My husband's birthday arrives in Summer. Practical and frugal Cancer Crab that he is, it is often difficult to find a present for him that he will enjoy. This year, the family pulled together and assembled some summertime gifts that he will be enjoying for years to come. Our new home is surrounded by lovely trees, so a hammock was at the top of our gift list.

After a good look around the neighborhood, I was hopeful that I could find a quality product at a reasonable price on-line. I was quite certain I didn't want the cheap cookie-cutter hammocks available at an inflated price through any of our local retailers! Through Amazon, I happened across [...] and my search was over.

Hammocks Rada is a family based company that began supplying thread for hammocks in 1974, in the city of Merida in Yucatan Mexico. They work with over 500 families in the area, many of which have been weaving hammocks for generations! Each hammock is handmade from raw cotton that is made into heavy thread and then woven by an artisan into a beautiful and functional hammock. These ancient Mayan designs mold to the body without placing any strain or unhealthy pressure, nor do they unexpectedly tip, threatening to throw you to the ground like some designs. You can lie perfectly flat and at ease in these wonderful hammocks.

Hammocks Rada offers several generous sizes. A single hammock is 11.48 feet (3.5 meters) long meant to accommodate a 6.23 feet (1.9 meters) long person. Weighing just 1.41 pounds (650 grams) itself, a single size hammock can support up to 326 pounds (150 kg), and costs only 16.99 in U.S. dollars, plus shipping. Hammocks Rada offers 4 more hammocks in larger sizes and weight allowances; double, matrimonial, and jumbo. As well as a lovely single person hanging hammock chair!

Any of the hammocks can be purchased in a natural color, a cool color combination and a warm color combination as well as several solid colors. All options are clearly displayed on the easy to navigate website; as are facts like hammock size, weight allowance, shipping fees per country, etc. Prices are very reasonable for this quality product, and the natural dyes appear to be brilliant and long lasting with reasonable care. They also offer a standard 20% off your order when you buy four hammocks in a single order.

I would suggest ordering directly through the website rather than through the Amazon link so that you can make your color selections and other specifications evident in the order in a clear and simple manner. This is best done directly through Hammocks Rada. Hammocks Rada displays it's cultural love of the hammock throughout the website, and offers several products to help you hang your hammock indoors as well as simple hammock ropes for larger spaces. It does not, however, offer any specifically tree safe straps or other hanging system for those looking to place their hammock in a more natural setting.

They do offer excellent on-line instructions on how to properly care for and clean your new hammock. If used outdoors, they should never be left to the mercy of the elements, for example. Hammocks do make an amazingly affordable seating option indoors too, especially where space is an issue. Once the hooks are mounted, it is easy enough to set up or remove seating as needed.

After some debate, we selected a matrimonial size in natural coloring as we believed it would be the best choice and the most pleasing to my husband's tastes. Contact after ordering was prompt and personable via email. Delivery was astonishingly fast. We received our hammock four days after ordering. We would have gotten it in three days if anyone had been home to receive it! Shipping is a bit much, but is certainly more than adequate. The quality of the hammock is evident as soon as you open the package.

Fine to the touch and, like spiderweb, much sturdier than appearances would lead you to believe. My husband and I have enjoyed many a quiet sunset together from the comfort of his forest cocoon this summer! It has been a marvelous way to let go of stress, and an absolutely delightful consumer experience from beginning to end. We look forward to purchasing more next year so the whole family can enjoy!

FYI: Since this seems to be a reoccurring issue with this particular review, I'll just state here: I do not now nor have I ever worked for Hammocks Rada or any affiliates. I am, however, a free-lance writer on a variety of topics, and this is what a consumer review looks like when you write for a living. I find it quite interesting though that not one of my other reviews at this site has received the negative response that this review has. I can't help wondering why. Why is it more acceptable to be horribly dissatisfied with a Dr. Scholl's product, or equally as pleased with the purchase of a Richard Scarry book? What's the prejudice against hammocks? And why does no one take the time to check out the info provided by a reviewer, let alone take a moment to check out if they even Have any other reviews posted? Curiousier and Curiousier!

I puchased this a couple weeks ago via their own site, [...] Their order form is a little quirky, but it gets the job done. Plus ordering directly from them saved me like 10 bucks for some reason. Really comfortable hammock, I keep telling people its like a full-body sling. Extremely fast shipping, I highly recommend buying.

This hammock is the most comfortable hammock I've been in. It is very large and fits 2 people with much room to spare. I can lay in it lengthwise or sideways while still having my entire body cradled in the hammock. I have recommended this hammock to several people already.

I was initially concerned by the cost of shipping and the 12-26 day time frame they said it would take to receive this item. To my delight the package arrived in 3 days from Mexico and I could not be happier with the quality. It looks beautiful hanging from the tree. It is sturdy and made very well. I totally give this company my full 5 stars! The total cost was far less than it would have cost in a store. A GREAT value..

I bought this as a Father's Day gift for my husband. He's has a type A personality and hardly ever takes a break to relax between work, sidework, and projects so I thought this would be perfect for him. Well he loved it and was completely surprised when he opened it! He's very picky about quality and the only kind of hammock he'd ever mentioned wanting was a Pawly's. However, we're on a tight budget and I had to go with something more affordable. He Loves this hammock! The price was affordable and it's really beautiful, very nice quality, not to mention very comfortable. It's big enough for 2-3 people to get in too, and the kids have enjoyed hanging out in it too. It sort of brings the tropics to your home. It also shipped very fast!

We got this hammock for my husband's birthday. He is absolutely thrilled with it. It is comfortable and attractive. We hung it low to the ground so even our Cocker Spaniel can jump up onto our laps when lying in it. 2 people and a dog fit easily. The open weave makes it cool on a warm evening. The kids love it as well. So far, it has proven tough enough to take a little bit of swinging around even though that is not what it is meant for. One thing to keep in mind: Do not sit on it with pants or shorts that have buttons or snaps on the back. They WILL snag and pull the weave loose. We love this hammock and are very happy with the purchase.

I was very satisfied and pleased to see the quality of workmanship with this hammock. It is strong and well made. And - you can't beat the price!! Be sure when you order that you understand it doesn't come with the bars at either end - this hammock has a strong loop at either end and fits my hammock stand perfectly. When I slip inside it, it envelopes me completely - very relaxing - great company - prompt service and delivery - no problem with it coming from Mexico - I highly recommend you trying this hammock!!

This is the most comfy and by far the best hammock, and you can't beat the price for the size! I have recently purchased this hammock in the blue hue and my boyfriend and I spend countless hours relaxing together on it. It is truley wonderful. =) Definitely 5 stars!!

I ordered this for my son for his birthday. I had read reviews on this hammock and it sounded like it would be a good one. I am very pleased and am planning on ordering 2 more, one for myself & one for my husband. It is super comfortable and huge!!! I was also impressed with how fast I received the hammock. I would highly recommend this product!!!

Nice cool cotton weave hammock especially here in Greece.Ample for one person to relax in ,and also room for 2 good friends!
