Product Description

The Sk1 Stage Keyboard is the most revolutionary HAMMOND yet. This ultra light instrument provides all of the basic instruments that any Keyboard player requires to play ANY show in ANY style. Its slim and compact 15 pound chassis begins with a complete Hammond Organ, with all of the features that you'd expect in a vintage B-3, plus our most advanced Digital Leslie yet. The Extra voice Division provides Hi-Def Acoustic and Electric/Electronic Piano, Clav, Harpsichord, Accordion, Wind, Brass, Synth and Tuned Percussion voices, which you may play solo or add to the Organ voices. The Organ Generator may be switched to modes that provide the authentic voices of British and Italian Transistor Combo Organs whose unique tones have had a 21st Century resurgence. The fourth Organ mode calls 32 ranks of Genuine Classical Pipe Organ voices derived from our Flagship Model 935 Church Organ. Like all our models, the Sk1 has deep editing capabilities that allow the user to tailor the Sk1 to their exact taste, and save their work to any of the 100 user presets. The 100 factory presets remain in static memory, for convenience and reference. The Fatar semi-weighted keyboard is designed to feel like a vintage B-3, yet remains comfortable for any pianist playing it. There is an expandable Library of additional voices which may be added, available free from the Hammond Website. An Mp3/WAV music player is onboard to play backing tracks, break music, educational aids or any other tunes combined with the Sk1's stereo output. You may also direct connect a physical Leslie Speaker via the 8pin dedicated Leslie Jack.

This board is the board i have been waiting for my whole playing career. I just played my first show whith it and I have NEVER felt so comfortable and connected to an instrument*. The organ sounds are the best around, I love the NE series, but the do have a digital quality especially with the draw bars out. as an owner of a Hammond M3 tonewheel organ, I can say, this thing is a hammond.

So what you want to know and what you need to know.

Leslie Sim- I dig it enough to leave my Hughes and Kettner Rotosphere and my Motion Sound 145 at home.

Extra sounds- *here's where the tweaking came in. I reprogrammed the ten presets, and within each patch, pick the right sound, the right effect and amount, assigned the foot controller, foot switch and damper to do what I wanted, picked the organ engine I wanted, assigned sounds to the upper and lower manual as I desired muting organ on extra voices (lower manual is a separate midi controller for me)

After those tweaks.... the board is UN REAL!!! Out of the box, honestly I wasn't happy, now I LOVE IT!!! If you customize you boards, this is in my opinion the very best performance keyboard I have ever played. The sounds are full and authentic and grimey when needed and powerful when needed, I use it with a crybaby wah and it is funky ass all hell.....

And it is light as hell and fit in a case the size of a guitar case. Own many great keyboards, motif es, korg cx3, voce v5+, virus ti, ,hammond m3, etc..... this is my favorite keyboard I have ever owned, and I enjoyed performing on it and hearing the rich beautiful sounds it made tonight perhaps as much as I have ever enjoyed performing.

This is the second Hammond I purchased in the last two weeks. The first was an SK2 and it had an issue with an intermittent switch ... sent it back immediately. This one appears to be fine.

That being said, the Hammond tone wheel and Leslie sims are awesome, and although the number of preset organs are limited ... you can create more of your own, but I'm not inclined to take the time right now. I don't think I've ever heard better pipe organs outside of the real thing.

Although it has a USB port, it DOES NOT function as a MIDI-over-USB out ... sigh. In fact, it only works with a thumb drive for patch downloads and firmware updates ... stupid. Secondly, you can use it as a playback device to mix in MP3s for play-along ... that's what my mixer is for ... and my PC. Ok, it's better than nothing.

Wish it had a wheel on it as well, but that would be asking for too much.

Overall, this is a very good instrument. It is small and much lighter than the Korg CX3 Hammond B3 emulator that I had been playing for the previous decade. The sound quality is also good, although not necessarily better than the Korg CX3. Unlike the Korg, this instrument does have many other sounds, including acoustic and electric pianos, that make the instrument more versatile. These patches are fine, except that the acoustic piano patch is not first rate, not comparable to the patches coming out of good Yamaha or Roland digital keyboards, although I;m sure that was also not intended. The prime use of this keyboard is clearly as an organ and as a 2nd or additi0onal keyboard; I plop this one on top of my Yamaha P-200, where it sits very nicely.

Unlike the Korg, and because of the piano patches, this keyboard does have velocity sensitive touch, and also has an input for a sustain pedal. The voices that are programmed into the keyboard are good, they do require some tweaking. Overall, the instrument does have a steep learning curve, as there are so many controls that one can tweak. Obviously, some familiarity with the Hammond B3 setup or with another B3 emulator (like the Korg) will help. I can't yet speak to the keyboard's durability, but have no particular reason to believe that it won't prove to be durable.

I really sounds like a Hammond organ and it has other great sounds, so you can play it anywhere, church, club etc
