My husband bought this set for me last year Jan(09) for my birthday. These knives are supposed to last a lifetime.Well they didn't. I took care of them according to the directions("handwashing is best").On the top where the two parts of the handles are put together, the glue or whatever it is has broken apart. When i start to put downward pressure on something i am cutting into, the knife bends up into the handle pushing this material out. This has happened on a couple of the knives already, the Santoku being one of them.

Its funny too because i bought another set of knives 30 years ago that i have NEVER sharpened, that have rivets that go THRU the knife blade and handles. A safer concept by far.I thought about getting rid of them and was going to after hubby got these new ones but decided to hold off a bit. I am so glad i didn't. The name of the ones i still have? They are made by.....Rogers. And instead of the ridiculous price that i am sure my hubby paid for the new ones, i only spent $20 for those. Now THATS what you call lasting a lifetime! You hear me out there big companies? If you want to sit there and make a claim like its going to last a lifetime make something that lasts a lifetime. I hate the new cheap knives.

Love this set. I have this set of knifes for 3 years now. Fancy and perfect for gourmet cooking. Not your typical knife set, requires extra care. But like I say they stay sharp, and have a perfect cut.

Just like the previous reviewer mentioned, the handle is separating from the blade, first on the paring knife and now on the Cook's knife. At this point I'm not interested in even getting a replacement from the company. I'm not an avid cooker, these knives (mainly the paring and cook's knives) were only used about 4 times a week for 5 minutes or so each time, they were never dropped and were only hand washed.
The sharpness was nice but what good are they if you'll have to replace them after only a few months.
Now I'm on Amazon and instead of buying a set of knives that I don't use I'm just going to buy a good Cook's knife and a good paring knife that can last me at least a few years.

There is a protrusion on the handle that prevents the bottom half of the blade from even touching the cutting board. You are left with cuts that go 90% of the way through and end up having to cut things twice when you would normally cut them once. This is also a safety hazard as many users may at first think they are not applying enough force on the blade, leading to excessive force and fatigue. Upon noticing that only half of my blade was being utilized, I decided to grind the protrusion down to the blade level. I only had to grind about 3 millimeters to reach the blade level and things seemed to be remedied until I minced a bunch of parsley and noticed the metal where the protrusion used to be starting to warp. After about 5 minutes, the metal actually fell through and now I have a hole at the bottom of my handle...the handle is entirely hollow!! The blade is held in place by a piece of molded plastic sandwiched inside a hollow piece of cheap steel!! Avoid this knife like the plague unless you want to chop things with a hazardous hunk of steel using twice the required effort.

Verified Purchase
Had to return the first set because the tips of the knives were bent. But a second set was shipped immediately without any problems. I like my new kitchen knife set.
