Biography

Gerald Joseph "Gerry" Mulligan (April 6, 1927 – January 20, 1996) was an American jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger.

Though Mulligan is primarily known as one of the leading baritone saxophonists in jazz history - playing the instrument with a light and airy tone in the era of cool jazz - he was also a notable arranger, working with Claude Thornhill, Miles Davis, Stan Kenton, and others.… Read more in Amazon's Gerry Mulligan Store

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Mulligan's best albums, July 2, 2000

This review is from: Hampton Presents Mulligan (Audio CD)
This is a must have album for cool jazz lovers. Smooth, calm, warm tunes of Mulligan are accompanied by the vibraphone virtuoso, Lionel Hampton. Performances of Mulligan and Hampton are great. What you'll hear is a heartwarming music with very well balanced solos of each player. Almost all tracks include trade of eights between saxophone, vibraphone, piano, bass, guitar and drums. Maybe this album won't make your heart beat faster, or drawn you in tears, but you will enjoy it for sure.
