But how do you convince your Ham-Ham friends to come back with you to the clubhouse? With Ham-Chat, the secret hamster language around which the whole game revolves. Each new Ham-Chat word lets you perform new actions. You can say hi to other hamsters, apologize to them, or compliment them. You can also learn special words that allow you to perform special actions, such as digging holes, doing summersaults, or climbing. But the best part of Ham-Chat is that each word is associated with a move, so when you go to the clubhouse's dance room, you can link your Ham-Chat words together and Ham-Jam. With a link cable, you can trade your dance with friends.
You can buy 30 different outfits for Hamtaro and try stuff on back at the clubhouse. You can take a photo that can be displayed in the room and on the title screen, and as you play the game, new places within Hamtaro's neighborhood become accessible. All of this makes a great game that children will love, especially those who are fans of the show. Some adults may find it too cute to resist, too. --Bryan Karsh

A Delightful, Easygoing Game,
By "brokenmachine" (Murrieta, CA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hamtaro: Ham Hams Unite! (Video Game)
First of all, let me say that I am a 17 year old male, so those who argue that Hamtaro is only for little kids are simply not open-minded enough. Much Like Pokemon, it's one of those super-cute animes that have really fun gaming counterparts. Even if you hate the show, Hamtaro is still worth your time simply because there's nothing else quite like it.Anyway, the premise of the game is unique. Basically, you start out with a "Ham-ham Notebook" which you fill with different words and phrases, including Hamha (hello), tack-q (tackle), hif-hif (sniff for food or items), and digdig (dig to look for buried items). You use these words in different areas to solve puzzles and unite all your friends. You have to find 12 of your friends, and you can fill your dictionary with up to 85 words. The puzzles are never difficult, they they may be a tad frustrating for really young gamers. The puzzle solving formula should be familiar with seasoned gamers, but the way it's presented and executed makes it noteworthy. I had a lot of fun with it because it's unique and interesting, and I left behind my Gamecube, XBox, PS2 to play this for a while. Because it's for Game Boy Color, the graphics and sound are dated, but that's something that is easily overlooked. This is the first of three Hamtaro games that have already been released in Japan. Here's hoping that Nintendo brings the other two over!

The reason most people won't play this game is because it's perceived to be a childs game. I'll concede that it's just dripping with cuteness, but it's backed up by a terrific game design that pulls you into a completly new world. The game is about trying to gather all your Ham-Ham (hamster) friends together for a special surprise, but in order to do that, you'll have to learn another language - Ham Chat. Through multiple choice menus you select words and talk with the inhabitans of the world. It's a great idea that easily be expanded into further adventures. And just imagine a game like this that teaches you Spanish, German or any other language! Gamers aged 7 and up will be able to enjoy the game and finish it in about 15 hours. But even after the adventure is completed you can go back and collect any words you missed (you can finish the game with only 70 or so of the 85 words), collect all the items so you can play dress up with Hamtaro, and best of all collect all the songs and create your own dances to them. Each word has a movement attached to it and you can select which ones to use in the dances to create your own choreography. Even better you can trade dances with your friends with other Hamtaro players via the GBC infa-red port. You'll get your money's worth and have alot of fun too. What more can you ask? Goodgo!

The best GBC title ever created! Hamha!,

...Statistics of Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite:Graphics=10/10-The graphics of Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite, looks amazingly like the Cartoon Network television series, and the characters are animated well. Way to go! Sound=10/10-The funny sounds, such as feeling hot or running scared, makes up for the sound department. Very funny! Music=10/10-The Ham-Jam option, found on the title screen, has superb music! Wow! However, the music found during the overworld is rather basic, but why should I blame on such a good GBC title like this? Control=10/10-The controls during the overworld are not only good, but they're easy to access too! The Tack-Q Bowling, Strawberry Soccer, and Sunflower Seed Gambling, for example, may take some skills to win, such as luck, speed, and timing. Fun=10/10-Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite, requires players to visit the areas of the map multiple times, because the more you keep trying, the more areas, items, and words you'll open up. It takes hours and hours to do it, just like in an RPG! Replay Value=High Difficulty Level=Insane! Remember, if you didn't like Hamtaro on Cartoon Network, you won't like it on GBC. But I, for one, can't get enough of this Cartoon Network to GBC migration. Also note that later on, it gets progressively harder, which means, you'll have to come up with some of your own new patterns of finding more Ham-Hams, like Oxnard, Bijou, Cappy, Maxwell, etc. Otherwise, you will get your sunflower seeds blown to smithereens! In my own opinion, Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite, is by far, the best GBC title ever created! It's not the last GBC title, but it costs only [$$] to buy it! What a great deal for a GBC title like that. I really don't want to spoil the title for you; you'll have to stand alone. Anyway, I better get going now! Bye-Q everyone, and Goodgo!... This title is rated E for Everyone for Comic Mischief, which means, it makes the entire crowd laugh-out-loud! Warning! You can save only 1 file at a time, dude!
