I took a weekend workshop with Karl and the guy is one of a kind. Steel making companies send this guy samples of their steel so that he will forge it, sand it, heat treat it, use it in the field and then give them his analysis of the steel. He is coming up on 80 years and let me tell you he is a valuable source of knowledge that won't be around forever. Do yourself a favor and buy his book, become a member of the California blacksmith association and take a workshop from Karl. It is a once in a lifetime experience/opportunity to learn from him. Forge Ahead smiths!
