The photographs in this book are magnificent. It succeeds as an art book.

But no information is provided about the insects, not even their names. If you wonder if you recognize an insect, there is no way for you to check. If you see an insect that you'd like to learn more about, too bad. If you'd like to use the book as a teaching tool, you can't unless you're able to identify the insects yourself. I find this to be a huge flaw.

There are other books available that have just as beautiful photos of insects but that have the courtesy to identify what you are looking at.

brilliant photography. we have many insect ref' books... this is the best illustrated.

I haven't yet read this book... because Amazon had it on backorder since LAST CHRISTMAS (8 months ago), and they finally gave up and said they can't get it. The ordering time still says "usually ships within 2 to 4 weeks..." Um, no, it doesn't. I still want this book, but I wanted to warn other people who might try to order this as a gift or something -- it may never come. :(

P.S. I had to give it a rating to post this, so I rated it at 4 stars since I haven't seen it yet (but it looks like it will be beautiful)!
