4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated to say the least
Another album that you will want to listen to again and again from beginning to end and not skip tracks. There is something very different about this band and this was clear from songs like Sunshine and Wannabe Gangsta from the first album. This album sounds like no other modern rock band - tracks 8 and 9 could have been Beatles or Beach Boys songs. Wheatus are all about...

5.0 out of 5 stars Poor Wheatus, June 27, 2004
This review is from: Hand Over Your Loved Ones (Audio CD)
If Wheatus hadn't had that one hit song, Teenage Dirtbag, they'd have a huge cult following. Because that one song was played to death on the radio, people automatically think of Wheatus as some pop band one hit wonder. Maybe they're a one hit wonder, but considering the sorry state of radio here in the good ol' USA, that's not so much a bad thing.

When I first heard Teenage Dirtbag, I fell in love with it. I went out and bought the CD and found, to my infinite surprise, that I loved the entire album. I rocked this album in my car, in my friends' cars, in my stereo, in my computer, everywhere. My friends didn't get it at first, but I didn't really care. I played it anyway. Eventually they came around and bought the cd.

Coming from this vantage point, I really wanted a new wheatus CD, but I was really afraid that I had built it up too much in my mind. When I got the CD, I was really disappointed when I heard the first song "American in Amsterdam". I thought about ejecting the CD and throwing it out the window (But only for a second). Luckily, the second song is really where this CD starts. They got the single out of the way and made the rest of the CD for the fans, what few of us there are...

It's a strange CD, the weirdest part being the title of track 9, "Whole Amoeba". I guess it was an inside joke. The chorus goes "You had a hold on me but just for a while..." and when you first hear it, you think he's saying "Whole Amoeba". It's not hilarious, but it always makes me smile, and it gives me the feeling that Wheatus is sharing an inside joke with the fans.

In the end, it's their attitude that always wins me over. Sarcastic and juvenile, but surprisingly well written and executed. Go buy this CD, listen to it once before work, and after you've hummed the songs all day, listen to it on the way home. You won't be disappointed if you succumb to their contagious energy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weezer, Ween, Wheatus, November 22, 2003

"Okay, so I'm a jerk and I'm a weirdo and even if I'm lucky I'll amount to zero but I thought that you'd love me anyway"

I hate it when people quote lyrics and think that you can get a sense of the incredible catchy melodies,
or the personal heartbreak that made a song meaningful to them.
And I just did it because I really love this album. And/or I suck.

Ironic nerd rock. Frankie Valley meets Quiet Riot.

Bitter, hopeful, funny, poignant, and utterly disposable.

Catchy, contagious, and something that you will sing along with in the car and your empty room.
Guaranteed to be one of those albums you play to death and then force your friends to buy
so that you know that someone will be listening to it.

This is one of those albums you will pull out 6 years from now and remember how much you loved it.

"why should I care about the long run? what should it matter to me?
I always knew I'd end up with no one, and now I know that the end is near, cause you've replaced me."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album, great lyrics, great vocals!, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Hand Over Your Loved Ones (Audio CD)
I wasn't subjected to the overplaying of "Teenage Dirtbag". I heard the song, I liked it. I liked all the other songs on that album as well.

But I don't think I'm wrong in saying that this album is a step above their first album. The music is more polished, and the songs seem to know what they are doing, whereas a lot of the songs on the first album just were kind of...there.

All these songs are great. Catchy harmonies and lyrics. The surprising two hidden tracks at the end of the CD. Live versions of track 2 maybe? I don't know. They are cool though.

They have rereleased this album, with a few new tracks, and you can get this new off their website for a small 18.00 bucks, shipping included!

But anyway, all these songs are great. My favorite probably being "The Song That I Wrote When You Dissed Me". Excellent chorus, and vocals. Catchy tune and everything. This band has talent. A bit strange at times, but very original and creative.

I cannot say who Wheatus sounds like, because they do sound like just themselves. Original, creative, and not afraid to go up against the power of the corporation.

Highly reccomended

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet as sugar and twice as crunchy!!!, August 30, 2005

Wheatus' hand Over Your Loved Ones, is one of the best things I have ever heard. I Like all music, as one of my friends has told me..."its funny, your like a "g"..but at the same time your not." but as I always state, "I Love anything, as long as its got the right something to it." and WHEATUS COMPLETELY HAS IT!
If your not seduced by The sound, The Lyrics WILL! get you!

I love this cd! its something grand.
I have never been a person to actually go out and buy a cd, I can't stand to listen to 5 tracks, and then finally! a good song will play. But with this, thats not the case, granted, I dont (LOVE!)ever song on the cd, but They are infact all worth listening to. Wheatus, is the kind of band, that no matter what song it is your gunna wanna play the song loud enough, you can't here yourself "singing" along with, and just Rock out with and act Like an idoit with your best friends! LOL! When my older brother put this cd on in the car. I fell in love, by the time we had finished our trip, I new the words, and a week later, my friends willingly, and ,or not knew them too. and not too mention, the words to the frist album!^0^!

As Its been said on many occasions, This album isnt/hasnt been liked as much as the first, and its true, maybe to some people none of the other wheatus songs will ever live up to Teenage Dirt Bag,...which is NOT! so WHAT SO EVER!(but heck, some people say none of weezer's songs will live up to any of the songs on the (blue album) and some people, think weezer is a new band now, because of Beverly hills LOL!

Yet, the failing of this album, is not really the albums fault all in all, as most will probly notice, wheatus' Suck Fony has the same songs, plus 2!..(they didnt just put out the album again, with 2 new songs, to make people buy both.) No, thats actually incorrect, This album was put out onto the street, with basicly no word of existance. Sony just didn't (as I say)- "Pimp" the album, But luckly, with the buying back of the rights, Wheatus, was able to put it Back out On the street, with a hole new bang!!!........so enter the name! Suck Fony!^.^"

But personally, for me, When I am to listen to this album, or any wheatus song, I always have to have (Rock show), by blink 182, near me to listen to, because the way wheatus songs feel, and the song Rock show feels, they just go together, so really for those that like blink your probly gunna get a nice kick out of this...

just try the album! Or You will someday fall for someone that owns it, and you will kick yourself in the ass for not have bought it. After, having asked him/her, "hmmm..this is new,..who is this?" yes..thats just how good wheatus is!

So finally LOL! ends my review!^.^\/
