WOW. Simply wow. I was a bit hesitant at first when i got the book but my son and daughter, who are not big readers, quickly put my mind at ease that the money i spent was well worth it. In the span of a day they have yet to put it down...correction, they have put it down only to try and create their own characters based on the story. This book has opened their minds and have taught them to explore different avenues to express themselves, for this i whole heartily thank the author from breaking my kids away from the x-box and putting their minds to better use. The word WOW is an understatement but right now the best i can do. I highly recommend picking up the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, February 22, 2012

Move over "Goosebumps" here comes something meatier. Benny Alano hits a bullseye with this fantastic children's book. The way he pulls off the 1st person, present tense is nothing less than incredible. The story starts strong, builds and builds until the explosive conclusion. Once you finish, you won't know what hit you. You'll reopen and read it again and again. Every time I say the name "Yeti Booger" my kids bust up laughing. "Hand Puppet Horror" is a welcome edition to any nightstand and gets a strong 5 stars from this reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars My inner child can't wait to share this with my real kids!, January 9, 2012
This review is from: Hand Puppet Horror (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to get a copy of this for review. My only regret was taking so long to finish it! The story is excellent for anyone that has ever been a child (if you haven't been one then there are other issues to discuss). I found myself grinning with delight and anticipation while scrolling through a story that easily let me see through the eyes of both Jay and Yeti Booger. It became a real internal struggle over whether or not to read it again with my kids (son - 4, daughter 2). In the end I opted not to... but I plan on keeping this one ready for the day they are ready for one of those stories both adults and uniquely awesome kids can enjoy from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome in so many ways!, December 27, 2011
This review is from: Hand Puppet Horror (Paperback)
Wow. What can I say about this wonderful book? I know... Yeti Booger! What a fun name to a fun story. In this book by Benny Alano who is an up and comming writer, we meet Jay, a fourth grader who is terrorized by a bully. During crafts time, he creates a hand puppet named Yeti Booger and soon enough the hand puppet spring to life causing mayhem in Jay's life. With the help of Becky and Sammy, his two best friends, and Stupid the Dog, they unravel this hand puppet mystery.

I really enjoyed this book! It is a fantastic read with great imagination. I could tell the author planned this book out well. If you have kids who don't like reading much, consider this book. It's well written and a blast for kids and adults!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done!, December 16, 2011

This review is from: Hand Puppet Horror (Paperback)
I'm not much for kids books at all, even though I have four little yard apes of my own. I do read with them and we have fun doing it, but I can't say that I enjoy kids' stories if it's not a classic like Peter Pan or stories written by The Brothers Grimm.

I was given a copy of Hand Puppet Horror for review, though. I agreed to this because the author is a great guy and someone I consider to be a positive acquaintance. I decided that the best way to go about reviewing a book that I normally wouldn't review would be to enlist the help of a seven year old boy.

On Amazon the description for the book is as follows: "When Jay's hand puppet, Yeti Booger, comes to life and defends him against Greg, the school bully, he thinks it's the coolest thing in the world, but after the creature becomes more than he can handle, Jay must figure out how Yeti Booger came to life and stop him before anyone else is hurt. It truly is a HAND PUPPET HORROR."

I never tell too much about plot in my reviews or what happens when and why because I don't like to give out spoilers in my blog or wherever else I might post the review.

Getting back to my point, my seven year old son, (Allen) Booger, was as giddy as can be because the puppet in the story was also named (Yeti) Booger. We read chapter by chapter, little at a time, because he has a very short attention span. My son is not your average kid. He hates to read. He likes to be read to, but only in short bursts. He also loves Cake Boss, but that's another post...

Having this book on my computer screen every other day or so was fun for both my son and myself. He enjoyed the pictures in the book as much as the story and he asked me questions all through the process about the content AND the pictures and just about everything else, so there were a few pit stops during each chapter...lol...

All together, the story is well written, well thought out, imaginative, bright (in a dark, creepy, childlike sort of way), and best of all, the story is a real story. It's not the kind of children's book about a kid who does this and that and then this happens and that happens. There's a REAL story there. Sometimes children's authors forget to use their imaginations when they write, which is a real pity. This author not only used his imagination, but he let it take over.

Well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Holy Knickerbockers!, November 16, 2011
I really enjoyed 'Hand Puppet Horror'. Benny Alano has created a superb story mixing scares, humour and adventure. The book is also full of great illustrations, especially the illustration of Yeti Booger facing off against Stupid the dog. Inspired!
This would make a good kids' film, and as I read the story I kept imagining it as a film.
Great work by the author and the illustrator.
Yeti Booger rules!!!!

My neice and nephew love this book, which is who I bought it for in the first place. That being said I read it myself and loved every single page. I read it in a single sitting, I couldn't put it down. The Yeti Booger wouldn't let me :)

This review is from: Hand Puppet Horror (Paperback)
This is a great horror book to share with the kid(s) in your life. Scary, funny, and just plain cool to read. The characters are rich and fun and Jessica Geis' artwork is wonderful. "Yeti Booger"... Just saying the name makes my nephew laugh. Me too actually. And we loved the surprise ending. Check out Hand Puppet of Horror, you'll be glad you did.
