3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good score, June 15, 2002

This review is from: The Hand That Rocks The Cradle: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell's score for "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle" is like the film it accompanies: By-the-book, but well done. There's nothing we haven't heard before here; your typical suspense score with emphazis on strings and woodwinds. In some parts it reminds me of Shore's "The Silence of the Lambs", but nowhere near as good. Still, this is a very atmospheric score with some good, exciting cues, and some very uplifting and emotional moments. Revell makes good use of the theme from the aria "Poor Wand'ring One" (which is on the album) from Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance". This more or less forms the main theme of the album, and is used imaginatively to create both suspense and serenity.
Overall, a good score - but in the long run perhaps not something you should spend your money on unless you are a die-hard Revell fan, or, like me, liked the film enough to want a piece of it on CD.
