This punch set would have gotten more stars but for a couple of flaws. As other reviews have noted, some of the punches are not very sharp, and this can make them difficult to drive through material using a hammer and the included handle. But there's a better way!

I used my vise to sandwich my material between a hole punch and a small piece of wood. This let me carefully and evenly drive the punch through without worrying about misalignments, incomplete cuts, or parts flying!

As to the sharpness, close examination revealed the cutting edges simply hadn't been well dressed after sharpening. This left the edges turned slightly, and I thought I would again use another reviewer's idea of chucking it into my drill press for an easy tuneup. Alas, the included handle is round, as are the holes in the individual punches, so they just stayed still while the handle rotated.

Instead, I inserted a small bolt from the inside of the punch so it protruded up through the back. Then I secured the bolt with a nut, and I was able to use the bolt shaft to chuck the assembly into my drill press. It took longer to insert and remove the bolt than it did to dress the edges, but the result was a very sharp punch!

The price on this set can't be beat, and with the modifications to my methods, I'm happy enough. Give the vise idea a try; I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Had another set just like this for over 20 years and wore it out. This is just like it. Well built. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

This is one of those items that doesn't get much use by the usual handyman or hobbyist but it's a real blessing when you need it. And, in years gone by I've had numerous occasions to need hole punches. I would have given it five stars but the cutting edges on some of the punches weren't ground down to a sharp edge. This is easily fixed by chucking the handle up in a drill press, seating the punch on it and using a file on the punch head as it rotates. It can be further sharpened by use of a whetstone or other type sharpener.

No they're not. This quality punch set was made in Wisconsin by Americans. Go team! I needed a punch set with an array of sizes from 3/8" to 1" to cut some felt and vinyl circles for a project. I had to make a couple hundred and I had to be quick about it. Even though I've been taught this lesson before, I initially cheaped out and bought a Neiko set on Amazon for about half the price of the A&E set. The box the Neikos arrived in was still warm when I put the set back in that box and sent it on its way back to Amazon. They were just not serviceable. I did a little research on A&E and once I realized they were American made and not typical Chinese junk, I bought a set. They arrived rust free and very very sharp. I cut a finger withing 2 minutes of fiddling around with the A&E cutters. That was impressive. They worked even better on the vinyl sheets I am using than they did on my finger. For best results It's best to use a hardwood or maybe a plastic (like the ones food cutting boards are made of) to cut on. I am very satisfied with this set, especially for the quality vs price. It's a winner.

They are sharp, seem of good quality and steel. They have nice incremental sizing ending at one inch which suits me, as I have a courser incremeted set starting at 1-1/8 going to 1-1/2", I have used but two thus far, buy hammer and later buy using a C-clamp to push through sixteenth inch heavy gasket material, which was a new method for me; a handy 'press', This made a clean accurate cut; no fuss. I then wiped them with WD-40 to keep oxidation at bay

This item is of good quality, is very sharp and has solved the problem that I had of trying to create nice neat holes without making due with a drill bit or hole saw. This is an item that I should have purchased years ago.

it is obvious that this is an American made product. Well designed and constructed from excellent materials. no complaints. apparently amazon requires one more word, so here are ten (plus a comma), damn, that is thirteen plus two parenthesis.. and now there are more... aaaahhhh, let me out...

Nicely made and in a pretty good case. These seem to be hardened and pretty sharp. The punches mount easily onto the mandrel, which is plenty long enough to position and strike. the problem is that if you really need an accurately place hole it is difficult to do. This would be a 5 star tool if there was a spring loaded centering devise built into the mandrel. I use a transfer punch that just will pass through the mounting hole in the punch to accurately center it, then remove the transfer punch and strike the back of the cutter punch.
