In my quest for the perfect GPS mount, I've tried the vent clip, the beanbag mount, the gooseneck suction mount, and out of desperation, started thinking about making my own cupholder mount.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with hard plastic dashboards
Beware -- this product does not work with hard plastic dashboards! But, you only find this out once you open the plastic packaging (thus making the product non-returnable) and find a notice INSIDE the packaging (and hidden from the outside) that the product is to be used with SOFT VINYL DASHBOARDS ONLY. Having opened the packaging (and therefore not being able to return...

In my quest for the perfect GPS mount, I've tried the vent clip, the beanbag mount, the gooseneck suction mount, and out of desperation, started thinking about making my own cupholder mount.

The Handstands Sticky Pad GPS mount is the perfect solution. It's small, flat, lightweight, portable, and not an eyesore. The top has a patterned surface and reminds me of a silicone potholder. There's a smooth plastic disk on which you attach the GPS' suction cup. The underside is sticky silicone that adheres to the dash. It leaves no residue when removed.

Handstands recommends use on vinyl dashboards only. If the pad loses stickiness, a soap and water rinse will restore it. To prevent dust from sticking to it during storage, I leave it on the plastic liner it was packaged with.

I use it with my 3.5" nuvi 255, and it performs well, with zero tipping, tilting or movement, of the pad or the GPS.

There may be some conditions under which it might not do as well. Because the friction comes solely from the silicone underside, I could see it possibly losing grip under the following conditions: dirty pad, heavy or large GPS unit with mount, a highly sloped dashboard, or frigid weather.

Measures about 7.25"W x 8"L x 1/8"H (1/4"H at the disc). 3.25" disc diameter. Weighs only 5.5 oz. You can choose whatever color you want -- so long as it's black! I bought mine for $4.99+ shipping, elsewhere.

December 2009 update:
I successfully used this on a cold dashboard that had a layer of Armorall on it. Not even dust would stick to that. But the Sticky Mount stayed stuck in a 200 mile trip, and didn't budge an inch. I like it!

I recently bought this pad for use in rental cars when I travel. I used it on my last trip to Florida and it worked fine. I put it on a relatively flat spot on the dash of my rental SUV and it stuck right away even though the dash had been coated with armor all. It has a solid area in the center to attach the vacuum base for the gps and once it was set up I left it on the dash for four days without any problems.

2.0 out of 5 stars May or may not work for you, October 26, 2010
This review is from: HandStands 10018 Sticky Pad Dash Mount for GPS Devices - Black-Mount-Retail Packaging-Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I have an Acura TL. In the center of the dash is a metal speaker grille that is about 4" x 6". It seems to stick to this pretty well, so I am going to keep this. On the other hand, my wife's Highlander has a more typical (hard) vinyl dash. It is completely worthless in this situation. In case you are confused about reviews referring to 'hard' vinyl, as i was, I think all dashboards are made of hard vinyl. Soft vinyl would be more typical of a seat covering. So I gave this 2 stars, but it really reflects 0 stars for most dashes and 5 stars if you have something other than vinyl on the dash that it will stick to.

The pad holds the unit in place very well on the dash. I think it is much better than sticking the unit on the side front glass that is required by CA law now. On the center dashboard, it keeps the power cord out of the steering area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handstands are tops, June 6, 2011
This review is from: HandStands 10018 Sticky Pad Dash Mount for GPS Devices - Black-Mount-Retail Packaging-Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've used my Handstand for more than a year my GPS has never once fallen off. I've been in Very cold weather and 118 Degrees in Death Vally in July. I've been on some very bumpy dirt roads. I've had several different types of mounts prior to the Handstand some have been really bad, virtual junk. I've never seen any other mount that works as simply or as easily. Every car we own has a Handstand, I'm sold on them

5.0 out of 5 stars HandStands Dash mount for GPS, December 10, 2010

Very pleased with the performance of this product. Its size provides a secure mount which conforms to any place on the dash of my cars. The color blends well with the dash color and doesn't broadcast the fact that there is a GPS system in the car when the GPS is stowed away. I have found the best place for my GPS is in the far left corner of the dash where it meets the windshield. This allows for an unobstructed view of the road as well as a good view of the GPS without my eyes having to leave the road. All in all a good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars better than windshield mounting, June 9, 2010
By
This review is from: HandStands 10018 Sticky Pad Dash Mount for GPS Devices - Black-Mount-Retail Packaging-Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
For more than 3 years I had my Nuvi attached to the windshield. The problem was the summer heat, causing it to fall off frequently, and destroying the suction cups. So far, I have not had that problem with the pad. In addition, the pad is very stable on the dashboard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, January 7, 2012

This gizmo does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do...stick to your vinyl dash surface without adhesives, and keep your GPS from sliding off the dash. I have it on my 04 Pilot and it provides a MUCH better position for viewing the GPS screen while driving than stuck to the windshield above the steering wheel. I would recommend this mount without hesitation. What if it loses its "sticky"? Just wash it off with water and soap and slap it back down and it's as good as new!
