Aye Yie Yie!,

This review is from: Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 2: Etiology and Assessment of Behavior Problems (Hardcover)
I would give this book five stars if it weren't for the level of difficulty in reading it...just had to take off a star for that reason alone. This isn't the book for the first time dog owner or casual trainer. It's a serious book for the well-versed student of dog behavior and training. Mr. Lindsay definitely knows what he's talking about but the reader must already have a fairly good grasp of the "concepts" behind his explanations in order to fully understand the material. It was a good read that I had trouble putting down, though! If you're serious about learning the more advanced concepts and principles in dog behavior and training, the book is well laid out and informative to the max!

Incredible book - it is so complete and really requires re-reading numerous times. For those who have difficulties with technical terms I advise buying the Saunders Comprehensive Veterinary dictionary - probably the best of its kind and truly a good companion when reading such advanced books.

This book along with volume one are the most in depth and useful books on dogs, their behavior and training. A 'must read' for those who work with dogs and very useful for the owner who wants to know dogs better.

For a dog behaviour professional, this book and its companion volume have to be the most useful and important resource around. Not for the casual dog owner, but then that's not the target market. A wealth of material, well presented and organised, and without bias. Now when's the one on behaviour modification coming out??!!!

Great for Dog Trainers/Behaviorists,
This review is from: Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 2: Etiology and Assessment of Behavior Problems (Hardcover)
This book is well written, organized and supported with reliable sources. Definitely written at a collegiate level. The author spends a lot of time (3 chapters) talking about the different types of aggression dogs display since aggression is the number 1 reason people hire a trainer. There are also chapters on excessive and compulsive behaviors, fears and phobias, elimination problems, basically all the issues that are the reason to hire trainers. He also includes a very specific form that he finds helpful to collect information from dog owners to get background information before training and before the first in-house meeting session with clients. This is a form that I will model my own after as it includes everything you can think of that can relate to a behavior issue. This book should be on every dog trainer's shelf and in use. I'm excited to read the next and to have the complete series.

Confused, but enjoyable anyway,

Well, imagine my suprise when I began reading this book only to discover that it had nothing to do with Dog the Bounty Hunter. I had prepared myself to delve deeply into the inner workings of this man by strapping on an extra absorbant Depends adult undergarment and surrounding myself with copius amounts of food to sustain me throughout my intended reading frenzy. I still read the book, and I guess it's great if you want to train actual dogs, but as a guide to help you stalk a trained bounty hunter? Well I had to subtract one star for that shortcoming.
