Editorial Reviews

Review

For both students and practitioners of Ayurveda, The Handbook of Ayurveda is a must-read. For the student, complex principles are simplified, and for the practitioner, Ayurveda's depth is thoroughly explored. This book belongs in the library of anyone interested in the study of Ayurveda.
- Dr. John Douillard

This book clarifies what is to the western ear esoteric Ayurvedic terminology and offers a simplified overview of what to expect and look for regarding Ayurvedic treatment. It offers basic advice for improving health along with information on herbs common to Ayurvedic medicine and their uses. It also shows how Ayurvedic medical practices focus upon the whole person rather than the symptoms of disease, thus emphasizing the fact that western medicine has a great deal to learn from Ayurveda.
- Dr. Henrietta Turnbull --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best introductions to ayurveda,, April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Handbook of Ayurveda (Paperback)
I am an alternative practitioner and have been interested in ayurveda for a number of years. Out of the numerous books I have explored in the field, this has to be one of the most concise introductions. The first few chapters lay the foundation to what turned out to be a very fascinating read. The book demonstrates the importance of ayurveda in a modern lifestyle which makes it all the more relevant in this day and age. Included are numerous case studies and preactical tips. The book is well illustrated and included contact details for further information.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction, April 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Handbook of Ayurveda (Paperback)
This is an absolutely fantastic introduction to the complexities of ayurveda. The narration is clear and concise and more importantly it is easily accessible to those with little or no understanding of the subject. From the outset Dr Godagama highlights the importance of ayurveda in the modern western world, and provides practical advice and tips which can be incorporated into the modern lifetsyle. In addition, throughout the book Dr.Godagama's draws on his own personal wealth of experience in treating patients with numerous conditions, stemming from irritable bowel syndrome to diabetes. This is a must read book for anyone requiring an easy to understand introduction to this fascinating science.....I found it a pleasure to read.
