This review is from: Handbook of Carbon, Graphite, Diamonds and Fullerenes: Processing, Properties and Applications (Materials Science and Process Technology) (Hardcover)
This book was written in the early 1990's and is somewhat outdated. For example, the book makes no mention of graphene, a hugely important addition to carbon, however likely not well known in 1990.
If you are seeking a introduction book to the field of carbon, there are better. If you seek a book related to applications, there are beeter. If you seek a book for technical knowledge and know-how in the world of carbon transformations, there are better. You get the picture. BUT, if you seek a book that touches on all of these without going into alot of detail on anything and is outdate by 20 years then this is the book for you. Although seemingly critical, this type of book is very useful for newbies into the field of carbon. Although, my one serious critism is the lack of citations. There must be ~10 for each chapter- which is horrible considering it is a scientific book, where similar books would have hundreds for chapter and leave the reader with the ability to learn more on a topic they found interesting. The most important part of this review-- a book's rating somewhat depends on what you spend on it. This book is not worth $210, If I spent $80 on it I would give it 4 stars. But for $200, and being as outdated and non-technical as it is- it gets 2 stars. |
