This book offers a well balanced introduction to Catholic teaching and theology for beginners - which might include some older credle Catholics. It begins with prayer, which is the foundation of our relationship with God. It includes explanatios of popular devotions, Catholic doctrine and the introduces the reader to the Church, the Bible, and a very brief history (timeline) of Christianity. It explains the Sacraments, the liturgical year and does a really nice job of explaining the physical worship area (the church layout and sacred objects). About the time you think everything's been covered, Sr. Glavich closes with four pages on making good choices; examining your conscience, and the seven points of Catholic social teaching.I am finishing my MA in theology at a Catholic university and am part of the RCIA team at church, where we just started using this book. It's a good book for RCIA participants and for returning Catholics who have been away from their faith for a while. It may also help folks in the pews who are do not have a lot of religious education. It would also be good for non-Catholics who want to learn what Catholics really believe about faith, salvation, and our practices. It would be good for those who misrepresent the faith but I doubt that they'd read it as truth about Catholicism Is not in their interest. It is a starting point, not the finish line.
