Editorial Reviews

Review

"...includes a solid lineup from experts in the field and provides an overview of the many areas one needs to attend to when working with this population. In addition to professionals specializing in treating sexually victimized children and adolescents, the utility of the handbook extends to the general pool of professionals providing mental health and child welfare services in the United States. This comprehensive handbook provides an excellent grounding in the topic, with guidance related to the most effective ways to respond based on current research." (PsycCRITIQUES, September 2012, Vol. 57, Release 37, Article 6)

This is an excellent detailed resource for professionals working in the field of child sexual abuse. It covers many of the most significant aspects pertaining to the assessment and treatment of child sexual abuse. The most up to date research is included and the content regarding neurobiological influences is specifically welcome in a handbook of this nature.

I was disappointed with the handbook. There was nothing new in this text that is not available in numerous other resources. It was purchased because I do therapy work with sexually abused children. I did not find anything in this book that I could apply to any of my cases. If you are a currently practicing therapist, you probably already have this information in other books on your shelf.

Very informative. Good for a therapist whom needs to better understand the issues involved with child sexual abuse. The only other suggestion I would make to therapists is to get training in a good seminar on the issues of child sexual abuse, and have supervision
by a therapist knowledgeable in the field. from gaiacorinne
