4.0 out of 5 stars Typical gimmickry, though unexpected
I owned the previous (fourth) edition of this book, which is quite well written and very useful, considering its class in Astrology which amounts to the western "sun sign" type. I was also interested in the equally useful yearly predictions for each sign contained in it, which spanned from 1998 to 2007. For an update on these, I decided to get this copy, the latest...

1.0 out of 5 stars A prosperous time for the Ox?
I bought this book 12 years ago, and through the 12 years I have noted the good and the bad and have this to say. Where, I am concerned the bad was bad but the good was bad too. Infact, there were no good years at all! But, there were years that were not quite so bad as others. Though, I might add that these better years did not coincide with the predictions in the book...

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical gimmickry, though unexpected, January 17, 2006
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 5e (Paperback)
I owned the previous (fourth) edition of this book, which is quite well written and very useful, considering its class in Astrology which amounts to the western "sun sign" type. I was also interested in the equally useful yearly predictions for each sign contained in it, which spanned from 1998 to 2007. For an update on these, I decided to get this copy, the latest edition. But I was badly disappointed when I did. The only changes made to this new edition included a larger book size and new cover design - more paper. The subject matter was the same, but the predictions, which I thought would be updated, were the same old ones, though rewritten and slightly lengthened, but only from 2005 to 2008. This book needn't be regarded as a new edition at all, and in keeping with the spirit of commercial swindling prevalent in our money driven times, seems only to have been produced so as to seem different from the old copy, so that people could buy it, thinking it was updated. In that way, Mrs.Lau earns more money. I didn't think a worthy scholar like her would stoop to such gimmickry like all the rest, but it turns out I was wrong.

1.0 out of 5 stars A prosperous time for the Ox?, December 17, 2008
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 5e (Paperback)
I bought this book 12 years ago, and through the 12 years I have noted the good and the bad and have this to say. Where, I am concerned the bad was bad but the good was bad too. Infact, there were no good years at all! But, there were years that were not quite so bad as others. Though, I might add that these better years did not coincide with the predictions in the book. This year is supposed to be and I quote from the book "A smooth and prosperous time for the Ox. Luck will favour his undertakings and all his previous troubles tend to fade away" Well, may I assure the writer that this has certainly not happened. The book makes interesting reading for at least I got a warning. But as for luck in undertakings etc? Well, even I believed in Santa once.
