5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for anyone interested in Chinese horoscopes
This work is a fascinating, enjoyable read. I had no prior knowledge of Chinese horoscopes. So when I received it as a wedding gift, I was unsure if I would get much out of it. I loved it! My wife is now reading it.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Chinese horoscopes.

1.0 out of 5 stars A real let down, October 30, 2007
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 6e (Paperback)
I own one of the first editions of this book from the early 90's and was really looking forward to this new one. It was really exciting at first to see how much bigger it was( I got the paperback) But there is hardly anything new and revised about it. There was actually a lot of things cut from it. Lists of dates were shortened, leaving big gaps of time and the list for future predictions only went ahead three years while past dates were completely illiminated, unlike the old list where you could compare up to a decade apart. Physically,it's unnecessarily large and cumbersome (hardly a handbook)and has the poor quality of newspaper with the same type of extra small print. The pages of tiny writing are framed by a huge amount of blank space. It only appears to have more content, but is just a waste of space and paper, and my eyes! This book is nothing but a big handful of paper!!! I'm returning it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete, January 30, 2009
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 6e (Paperback)
I purchased this book for this years horoscope and found out it does not go beyond 2008. It will cost more to ship it back than what I paid for the book and the long shipping time. Thank goodness I did not give it as a gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll love this book, February 27, 2010
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 6e (Paperback)
This is such a wonderful book to learn more about family members, friends, significant others (or yourself)! I love Lau's conversational, witty writing, which accurately and humorously points out the characteristics and quirks of each sign. You'll find yourself identifying with her spot-on descriptions. ("That is totally so-and-so! So THAT'S why he is how he is!") The compatibility tables are great for finding out which signs you'll mesh with best (or ones you might find challenges with). Now that I have a baby boy, it's fun to read about the traits I might expect in my little ox. I cracked up when I read, "He is not the fussy type but will be adamant about the few concessions he demands." My little one is as easy as can be, but there are a few things that he is super super particular about, and if you do them differently, watch out! :-) You'll find yourself going back to this book again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, February 23, 2010
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 6e (Paperback)
Solid reference to keep on hand if you have an interest in Chinese astrology, as information is easy to find in each section (logical organization)
This edition actually goes through 2011, so I am not sure why one reviewer commented otherwise - I am guessing they accidentally bought an older edition
Gives a lot more dates than most other books I have browsed
Written well, and gives a great deal of information on each zodiac

If you want something simple to use as a party-game, then this might fit the bill. If you want something more, look elsewhere.

I don't think that this is a very good book for anyone who wants to learn about or progress with Chinese astrology. It's nothing more than a superficial glimpse of a complex and beautiful philosophy that will leave a real seeker disquieted and unfulfilled.

It will not teach you anything about the mechanics of Chinese astrology, nor will you find any deep insights about anyone with it. It does not compare well to other horoscope books.

Most of the "Handbook" is filled with the same descriptions repeated over and over again with slight variation for each sign. There's much less substantive content than one might expect from 400 pages.

You might note that there is a new edition of the book released every 2 years or so. They have to do that because Ms. Lau's charts do not extend very far into the future. If you rely on it to any extent, you'll have to pick up another copy every few years. Other books offer decades of charts. This is pure shameless exploitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars She's doesnt have bias views like the rest, January 22, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes 6e (Paperback)
I gave it 4 stars because she is right on the money with every animal, not bias misleading people like the rest you read on the web or -if you have ever read other authors in this field. She gives details along with the negatives/positives, and the forcast are on point. However I purchased this book at the end of last year. On her site it says forcast to 2014 however it ends at 2010. That was a big disapointment. I hope a 7th edition comes out soon. Otherwise I do suggest she is one to follow. the book repeats its description like some complain about but its the forecast your looking for not the other stuff unless your a newby seeking understanding on the technical parts

Not the greatest book at the moment - a lot of repeat stuff and a lot of stuff omitted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits the mark!, August 26, 2007

Makes poignant connections. With amazing accuracy Lau shows how people lean toward tendencies they may not be aware of, what to avoid and how to get along with those around us.
