This book should be mandatory in every seminary or pastoral seminar. I also read his original book over 10 years ago and bought this edition because the other one never made it back to me after I loaned it out. The corrections he made were outstanding and makes this book even more valuable.

It is written to cover Matthew 18:15-17 and it is done both biblically and simple in its presentation. There is so much unbiblical understanding in this area that I would recommend every minister to read this book to see how their views lines up.

The highest recommendation I can give is that I have used his material and his triangle of incremental steps in 3 churches and all have become healthier as a result. In one church there was a terrible problem with gossip that had taken over the atmosphere of the church. This teaching not only cleared the problem but no one was lost in the process.

What I especially like is how the congregation/members are empowered and released to care for each other as they become proactive in creating and maintaining healthy,Godly and biblical realtionships.

The most interesting possiblity is how a spouse can utilize this process to better their marriage.

This book will give you clear, detailed information on a greatly overlooked area in our churches today, and yet it is concise enough to refer to at a glance whenever you need to. Very practical. If we all followed his advice there would be no liberal churches; we all would be in or out.

This book is short, yet gives very explicit intructions regarding the biblical mandate and process for the ministry of church discipline which every true church of the living God should be exercising. I highly recommend it for those already involved in this ministry, as a checkup on your activities in this area, and for those who are just realizing that scripture commands His church to carry out this work calling to repentance, restoration and keeping His church pure.

This book contains sound biblical principles related to what is generally a misunderstood subject. The author writes in a "non-threatening" manner to explain what church discipline is and how to address problems within the church family in the biblical way, with a motive to achieve restoration, not punishment. The book is easily readable. If the course of action described here is followed, our churches would be much healthier!

I was very pleased with the book. We needed some basis for understanding laws which were Biblical.

As the title suggests, this is a practical manual of the way in which biblical discipline should be carried out in the church. And as the subtitle indicates, the great theme of this book is that discipline is a blessing that we dare not withhold from God's people.

One of the unusual arguments in the book is that there is a difference between excommunication and "putting outside the fellowship". In the former, the offending party is still regarded as a brother, while in the latter situation, he is regarded as a "tax collector or sinner".

I read this book a number of years ago and lost it and bought it again. Now I know why I lost it. It doesn't say much that you can't already get from just reading the relevant passages on your own. Some of his exegesis is shaky at best. If you need to give this to a lay person that is getting introduced to the idea of church discipline it might be helpful.
