The "Handbook of Essential Psychopharmacology" is both a clinical reference for experienced clinicians and a teaching tool and manual for residents, especially those preparing for the psychiatry board examinations. This guide provides basic facts about psychotropic drugs, including dosage, indications and drug interactions. Each chapter summarizes information about one of the four major drug classes: antidepressants, antipsychotics, antioxidants/sedative-hypnotics and mood stabilizers. Each chapter also provides: a brief overview; tables and graphs for quick clinical consultation; a question and answer section and clinical vignettes designed to test the reader's comprehension; and a comprehensive reference list.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Ronald Pies' latest work, the "Handbook of Essential Psychopharm"acology, maintains the lofty goal of easing the information burden of busy clinicians. The handbook distills the most important knowledge in the field of psychopharmacology and packages it in a manner helpful to both experienced practitioners and new medical students trying to learn the data and its applications.... The handbook's index and reference lists are highly detailed and definitely enhance its value.... Overall, the handbook uses a combination of substance and style to admirably acheive its goals. Questions about this work are all answerable in the affirmative. Readily accessible and up-to-date? Yes. Interactive teaching tool? Yes. Physicians needing quick access to psychopharmaceutical information should say 'yes' and put this book in their personal collections. Medical libraries, especially those with a teaching mission, should, also say 'yes' and purchase a copy."- "E-Streams"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to have for psychiatry resident., August 4, 2009
This book was recommended by our psychopharmacology attending. I really love it! It has a ton of helpful charts, Q&A's format. One of the most useful psychopharm books I own and actually use. Highly recommend.
