Good Read, worth the price,
By
This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
Yes, this is an excellent book that all entrepreneurs should read. It sets forth the basics for financing early stage and growth oriented firms. The data base alone is worth the price of the book.I do believe that more space should be dedicated to possible exit strategies. This book still gives a glimmer of hope for an IPO. A more practical examination of practical exits is warranted. Several years ago almost all of my clients were seeking the IPO as an exit. I still occasionally get a start-up client seeking an IPO, but that is rare. And, they quickly learn how difficult the process is and how unlikely the odds are. Additionally, in my opinion, it does not give justice to the difficulty of even finding start-up capital. Too many VCs are busy bailing out prior investments to fund new ventures. Of course, this will change over time, hopefully. A requirement for revenue growth and profits is moving some VCs into the mezzanine area instead of venture funding. I would highly recommend this book for either an entrepreneur considering a new venture or for an established business owner requiring growth oriented funding.

This handbook should be on every entrepreneur's bookshelf,

This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
This book is truly incredible! As the co-owner of a full service commercial finance intermediary firm, we are always looking for valuable and concise resources to draw upon for in-depth information regarding the very vast world of corporate finance. This book is it. It doesn't matter if you are an entrepreneur, student, or financial professional, this book covers every aspect of corporate financing options. I have used the "Financing Source Directory" numerous times to locate finance companies based on area of expertise and required funding. Our job as financial intermediaries is to not only educate our clients based on the best source of financing according to their respective needs but to also have a vast database of finance professionals to call upon in order to successfully facilitate our clients funding requirements. The "Financing Source Directory" and the material in this book provide just that and more. The investment price for the book is worth the directory alone. If you're trying to locate funds for your company or if you would like to have a better understanding of how to finance a growing organization, go buy this book.

Reads like a great novel for the Entrepreneur,

This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
If you are like me, you read a lot of books to help you become a better Entrepreneur, looking for those tasty morsels that give you ideas or methods to succeed in growing your business. This books is one of the few of its kind that I could not put down. Each section was interesting and most were relevant. I am sick of reading about pure high tech and software only plays. This book is not only very educational, it is a reference manual that never leaves my desk. The Database of funding sources is invaluable.

A Complete Financial Education,
By
This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
From the basic to the complex, this book addresses 'finance' for the entrepreneur or the seasoned professional. In these economic times with many sources of funding virtually nonexistent, what a terrific education for those looking for alternative or secondary sources. The authors not only advise, but truly educate in a practical and real-world manner. I believe Chapter 5, "Sources of Capital and What to Expect" provides a street-smart guide as to how and why the sources work, and what their perceptions and needs are through the process. What an education! The case studies are insightful too....always nice to know the authors have the real-world experience to support the contents of a quality book like this. Mr. Marks, Robbins, Fernandez and Funkhouser....please keep up the great work!

CEO Feedback on Growth Financing,
By
This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
As a CEO I usually don't have the time or inclination for doing reviews on books, but I found Growth Financing to be a "must read" for any Business Owner looking for money to grow their business. The book is written in a very readable format and gives a good educational insight on the different types of financing that can be put in place to help grow your business. I have read this book twice, given two copies to other CEO's and have had two of my Presidents read it as well. Excellent read and one of the 5 Books on my CEO must read list!

A complete commercial financing guide,
This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
As one of those asked to write a blurb for the cover of the book, and who made one or two modest suggestions, I come to this with some prejudice. However, having been an asset based lender for some thirty five years, I have never seen a more complete treatment of the practical aspects of business finance. Many books are written on such a theoretical level, that they are worth little to the entrepreneur or the CFO of a mid-sized company. Ken Marks and his team have made the complicated seem almost simple. They lay out the details for you in laymen's language and provide resources for capitalizing your business. If you are serious about your business's growth and profitability, you need this book. It will help move you to the next level. Barry Yelton

This review is from: The Handbook of Financing Growth: Strategies and Capital Structure (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
Whether you are a start-up, growing a business or just interested in business reading, Kenneth H.Marks provides a clear insight into topics and issues required by any business person. Thought I understood finance until I read this book and located gaping holes in my understanding. Would recommend this book for any business course- it fills in the knowledge gaps that business schools leave.
