Book Description

January 3, 1996 0805817255 978-0805817256
Human factors test and evaluation (HFTE) is the principal means of ensuring that systems and products will be effective and usable before they are placed in the hands of the using public. Hence, HFTE has a significant impact on the system development process, while remaining more or less inconspicuous to the using public. It measures and characterizes the interaction of human-system components, hardware, software, procedures, and humans, in terms of performance (effectiveness) and user satisfaction (suitability). This book explains how those interactions are measured and characterized, and how the results are conveyed to others in the system development process. An essential reference for human factors professionals and students alike, this volume provides up-to-date, comprehensive coverage of all aspects of HFTE. Its editors and contributors are distinguished practitioners with a wealth of experience in this important field.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The handbook is not a quick or easy read, nor should it be. Its breadth of coverage justifies its hefty length, and I expect to continue to use it much as I might a thorough reference book: as a memory refresher in some of the methods and techniques, and to expand my ideas from another's perspective on applications.
Ergonomics in Design

The handbook contains current information and focuses on the major methodologies and technologies of human factors T&E with sufficient depth to serve well as a textbook for an undergraduate or graduate-level course in test and evaluation. More significantly, the broad range of applications offers enough examples for a beginning practitioner to adapt to many other applications.
