Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This specialized handbook is one in a forthcoming series for professionals and academicians in the human resource management field. While most such approaches focus on either purely academic theories or practical, applied tasks, this collection of essays aims to bridge the gap between research and the pragmatic needs of human resource staffs. Having academics and professionals coauthor the articles helps to maintain this helpful blend throughout the work. The 32 chapters cover the gamut of timely human resource topics, from an excellent historical review of the different human resource approaches to today's wide-open, team-based, and entirely new concepts, which are setting the stage for organizations of the next century. Staffing, downsizing, executive pay, empowerment, teams, performance appraisal, and ethical human resource issues are just a few of the gems here. Recommended for academic business school libraries.?Dale Farris, Groves, Tex.

This review is from: Handbook of Human Resource Management (Blackwell Human Resource Management S.) (Hardcover)
When you buy a handbook, you must be advised about this kind of compilation: it's a deep discussion with many authors that could bring you news, concerns, problems and strtegies to handle an issue.

Human Resource Management not could be translated only as people management and this book gives you this idea, showing how many instances must be cleared and ansered. If you plan to study this subject, it's important to read it and be prepared to think a lot.

This book paired top researchers and practitioners to provide a unique perspective on human resource management (HRM). You'll find multiple HRM case studies integrated with theory that evaluate the current status of the field and provide future directions for research. The book includes an overview of HRM functions, strategies, and perspectives that is remarkedly comprehensive. Though originally published over 10 years ago, the book provides an excellent overview of HRM that remains useful for students, practitioners, and researchers today.
