4.0 out of 5 stars a good reference book
I have used this book in my work, it is a very convenient reference book for hydraulics. I think it is worth every penny I spent. This book covers a wide range of the knowlege in this area.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great reference
If you need a reference manual, this has everything. Although, most people need text books for problem solving, whether they be a student or a professional. This book some how managed to completely avoid sample problems. I returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clasic Hydraulic Handbook: A must for the CE library., March 29, 2000
By
Mark Boucher (Contra Costa County, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Handbook of Hydraulics (Hardcover)
This book has been a standard for Civil Engineers for many years and is likely to be found in every civil engineering firm's library. It has timeless information on coeficients for weirs, orifices, and other drainage structures based on laboratory experiments from several sources. The one in our office is well worn and several have purchased their own copy to have at hand. With it, the CE can be confident in the values s/he uses to calculate flow characterisics. The book has several tables that are handy, but are not needed since the advent of the computer and handheld calculator. However, if one is familiar with the tables and has a good head for numbers, the tables allow for quick estimates of flow characteristics without having to hunt for the calculator.

5.0 out of 5 stars To get non-metric get the old version used, April 23, 2010

I've been borrowing this book from other engineers now for 30 years. Don't need it every day, but when I need it nothing else will do. Time to get my own copy.

If you work in english units (cfs) best to order the older version used.

2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: METRIC EDITION!, September 27, 2008
This review is from: Handbook of Hydraulics (Hardcover)
So, yes, there are other reviews with this warning. But, I did not check them before purchasing. Duh.

But, this book is ENTIRELY METRIC. Not helpful for most of us who learned hydraulics in English units. Found the 6th edition at a library and it is in English units.

Otherwise, if this were not in Metric, it's a great text. Just beware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Handbook of Hydraulics, February 15, 2003

This book was a classic, but why does it have to be metric? I guess converting it gave the academics something to do. Here is a news flash for the publisher: Civil Engineers praticing in the US don't use the metric system. Even our state DOT has given up on converting. I wish that the 6th edition was still available. Its just about useless now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Qualm-free, July 11, 2011

Another satisfied customer here. Book arrived on time and in great shape. I purchased it because it is recommended as a reference for the PE exam and because it makes for a good reference in what I do. I can't comment on the content in much detail as I have not had it very long.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is all metric - worthless, February 27, 2003

We use english units in my state. This book is all metric. They could have at least had both metric and english in the book. I sent mine back, as it is worthless to me.
